Joe It is based on man's interpretation not what the Bible says therefore calling it not biblical is not reflecting a denominational bias. 2 Chron. 1:7 On that night God appeared to Solomon, and said to him, "Ask! What shall I give you?" If man then wrote in a documment, 'that God physically appeared to Solomon.' I see no denoiminational bias in saying the document is not Biblical. EdB |

Dear EdB, The fault in your arguement can be illustrated by the doctrine of the Trinity. This doctrine was written by fallible men. According to your line of reason, The doctrine of the Trinity must be unscriptural and banned from discussion on the forum. John |

"The fault of your argument can be illustrated by the doctrine of the Trinity." ... I do not believe the doctrine of the Trinity illustrates any fault in EdB's argument. The doctrine of the Trinity is supported by ample scriptural evidence. The doctrine of the salvation of "elect infants", a part of the Westminister Confession, lacks specific scriptural support, including the term "elect infants." According to EdB's line of reason, the doctrine of the Trinity is neither unscriptural nor should be banned from this Forum. It is both highly inaccurate and patently absurd to jump to such a conclusion that the doctrine of the Triunity falls into the same category as the doctrine of the salvation of "elect" (whatever that means) infants. --Hank

Dear Hank, Though less exhaustive than the doctrine of the Trinity, "elect infants" cannot be said to be without Biblical foundation. WCF X, III. Elect infants, dying in infancy, are regenerated, and saved by Christ, through the Spirit,[12] who works when, and where, and how He pleases:[13] so also are all other elect persons who are incapable of being outwardly called by the ministry of the Word.[14] [12] LUK 18:15 And they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them: but when his disciples saw it, they rebuked them. 16 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. ACT 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. JOH 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. 5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 1JO 5:12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. ROM 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. [13] JOH 3:8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. [14] 1JO 5:12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. ACT 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Therefore, I see my complaint to Ed as legitimate. John |

John Reformed - Have it your way, John. I think it quite unlikely that I, EdB, or anyone else on the Forum could say anything that would be likely to change your mind or bring you to the slightest admittance of your being in error. If you see your complaint against EdB as being legitimate that is your affair. My interest lies not in your opinion of the legitimacy of your complaint but in the lack of scriptural foundation for the statement concerning "elect infants." Scripture says nothing about "elect infants" so far as I know. The scriptural passages you quote in your post in an effort to substantiate the legitimacy of your complaint against EdB certainly don't mention it and thus do not show the legitimacy of your complaint against EdB. --Hank

Hank, Your not exactly the most pliable fellow I've ever met either :-). You are correct to say that the term "elect infants" is not in the Bible. Niether is "elect adults" or "elect adolescents" for that matter. The "elect" are simply those whom God has chosen from before the foundation of the world. 2 Tim 2:10 For this reason I endure all things for the sake of those who are chosen, so that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus and with it eternal glory. The fact that God has chosen a people for salvation is not disputed by christians. It is the BASIS upon which they have been chosen which is the focal point of the arguement. John |
