Just a thought- Limbo? Where in the bible does it teach such a doctrine? God alone has immortality. 1 Tim 6:15,16 A soul is a living being, the combination of a body and the breath of life and never a conscious entity separate from the body. Gen 2:7 Ecc 9:5,6 The soul can die and can be destroyed in hell. Eze 18:2o Matt 10:28 At death the body returns to dust and the breath of life returns to God who gave it. Ecc 12:7 Death for both the rightous and the wicked is a sleep ,a state of unconsciousness in the grave until the resurection. Ps 6:5, 115:17 ,146:3,4 Ecc 9:5,6, Jn 5:28,29. Heb 8:1,2. The idea of an immortal soul is a teaching of the ancient greeks. read up on the teachings and writtings of Plato,Plotinus,Tertullian, and Origen. None of the teachings of these men are based on bible truth yet some of their teachings are held in many churches of today. In regards to infant death God has a plan for all those who die. He knows all from beginning to end. See book of Jer. He said that He knew him before he was ever formed in the womb. Those who have lost children at birth can know that their child is asleep waiting the resurection. Candy Lee | ||||||

Greetings candy lee, thank you for your post you may be interested in my conclusion to this question, post #99421. Although the Catholic doctrine is commonly known as "limbo" (and come from the Latin "limbus"), it is only a "name", the substance of the doctrine, where do children go when they die is not, "in the bible" either! While not saying that the Catholic theologians got it right or wrong, my question was what was the Protestant answer? I am no theologian but what does one say to the distraught parents of a dieing child when asked that question and asked to "prove it" SHALOM RJJ P/s Thanks for the doctrine, commonly called"soul sleep"a doctrine that I DO NOT subscribs to.
