"BTW, you're back from your summer at Vandy I presume?" You presume correctly. It was a great experience, and with your literary training I bet you would have appreciated the comparative lit seminar in which I participated. The seminar did convince me even further of one important thing: there need to be more thinking Christians glorifying God in the realm of academia. --Joe! |

Joe - On the "need to be more thinking Christians glorifying God in the realm of academia" -- most surely I agree heartedly. This summer during a visit to my daughter's home in Cape Cod, I happened to engage in a long conversation with an Oxford don who has a summer home in the Hyannis area. Among other subjects we discussed C. S. Lewis who was also an Oxford don. I gathered from the drift of the professor's conversation that even in Lewis' time a Christian apologist was something of a rara avis on the Oxford campus and that the term "thinking Christian" would be considered an oxymoron by the majority of the dons of today. To a large degree in our American society -- and even a larger in the British -- "Bible thumper" has become a synonym for "bigot," "idiot," or a blend of both: "bigoted idiot." --Hank | ||||||
