No, I read what the English says. When I compare it to the Greek, Hebrew or Aramaic, I see problems. I saw this when I studied the word worship. There is a wide range ... Young's Literal Translation - 27 results ... to Contemporary English Version - 1077 results I say "all translations lead us wrongly" because we will fail to see worship as being prostrate being one who absolute rule over me. Translators, even KJV, have let culture ditate how words should be ... and in the case of worship, it has been redefined. When I studied worship I didn’t just take the words; I looked at the context… - I looked at who we worship. Are all the names and attributes of God, related to worship? - I asked why we worship, what is the purpose? - I’ve been taught that some activities (proceedings) were worship, yet was this how we should worship? - I wondered is there a special place we worship? - Finally, when can I worship… what do I need to do to prepares to worship. Hmmm, very interesting, Searcher. Strange how all the armies of translators have missed the fine points concerning the definition and mode of worship, as well as other things also, I gather. Shame on the translators for leading us down the primose path to error and deception! I've a good mind to trash all my translations forthwith. Of course, knowing neither biblical Hebrew nor Greek, I'm beside myself, knowing not what to do. At my age it is a real challenge to begin the study of Hebrew and Greek. And how am I to know that the guys who wrote those language grammars are not out to trick me too? Maybe, just maybe, those Hebrew and Greek words don't mean what the dictionaries say they do. The dictionaries as likely as not were compiled by a bunch of practical jokers out to get us. What a grim prospect I face. It's always amazing to consider what one can learn on this forum. How disconcerting to learn that all attempts to render the Bible into English are freighted with error and mortally flawed. I do read a little German, Latin, and French; but that's no good either, I suppose. They're probably just as bad. O, wretched man that I am! What to do? What to do? :-) --Hank | ||||||
