Hello Raven Guidelines? You bet! The object: John 4:23-24 (ESV) But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. [24] God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth." The dress: Psalm 29:2 (ESV) Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness. The place: Psalm 99:5 (ESV) Exalt the Lord our God; worship at his footstool! Holy is he! And it's all contemporaneous. Steve |

Steve, It would seem that you agree with contemporary worship. But to come into the presence of the Lord, which is what you are attemping to do, how do you think based on scripture the Lord views hand claping, raising hands and arms above the head and swaying in your seat? The Psalmist said,Psalm 96 9Oh, worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness! Tremble before Him, all the earth. I'm sorry Steve but I don't think contemporary worship quite fits into the Lords pattern. Raven |

First of all, let me go on record that I am absolutely no fan of the vapid, emotional, man-centered, theologically-empty stuff that passes for "worship" in many circles today. That having been said, you wrote: "how do you think based on scripture the Lord views hand claping, raising hands and arms above the head and swaying in your seat?" Like this: "O clap your hands, all peoples; Shout to God with the voice of joy." --Psalm 47:1 "So I will bless You as long as I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name." --Psalm 63:4 "Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and dissension." --1 Timothy 2:8 --Joe! |

Joe, your post about clapping and raising hands brings to mind a story I heard long ago. A man came from a country church to a town church which prided itself on its ultra-reserved, 'high-church' atmosphere. The country man was the only person in the worship service to punctuate the minister's sermon with several Amens during the worship. He alone clapped his hands after the choir sang a moving anthem. He alone raised his hands above his head during a congregational hymn of praise. At the close of the service, a couple of deacons of the uppity church came to him and said, "Mister, you're welcome to worship here with us, but you must understand you are not to disrupt the service with your Amens, clapping and arm waving." .... "But," said the country man, "I got the Spirit, I got a good case of religion." .... "Well," said one of the deacons, "you didn't get it here." --Hank | ||||||
