Thanks for the answers Steve. I backed up a little further in Matthew than you did to give a complete context...I don't like taking verses out of context...I feel the vereses before the verses you listed are important to the context of Jesus' discussion. (I'm not saying you took it out of context) Your answers truely have shed new light on this for me. :) But I have to take the point of view that since we are not told exactly who Beelzebub is, that we can not be sure it is a name of Satan. I feel like he is one of the princes, strongmen, or lords under Satan. |

Greetings Copyrightpolice! May I interject here? You are correct that there is not any verse which specifically states "Beelzebub is Satan". However, the structure of the passage makes it pretty clear that this is the case. It is even more apparent in Marks account. In Mk. 3:22, the teachers of the Law make the accusation that Jesus is casting out demons by the power of Beelzebub. Jesus immediately responds with a parable saying in v. 23, "...How can Satan drive out Satan?". Thus, structurally, it seems a pretty safe bet that Beelzebub and Satan are both references to the same entity. In response to your original question, I do think all angels and demons have individual names. However, Scripture only specifically names a few. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
