I feel that you can not lose your salvation. What are verses in the Bible that would prove me wrong. | ||||||

Since everyone seems to want to venture into this let me say one more thing. Unless you are actively involved in sin or plan to be, the answer should hold no interest to you. If your in sin, think about what your doing, your like a child, your mother says "No! don't do that or I will smack you". You then continue on to see how far you can push. If your mother was like mine you couldn't push past a second warning. Why do you want to act like a child with God, saying, "if I do this will you forgive me?" "Okay how about I do this will you still forgive me?" and etc. Let's stop this before it starts. I really don't care what Calvin or Arminius said! If you really love Jesus, the answer is not of any importance in your life. EdB |

"Unless you are actively involved in sin or plan to be, the answer should hold no interest to you."....i'm not sure i understand that statement...since we all have sinned and continue to sin and fall short of the glory of God, how can you make that statement?...all of us sin everyday, except of course those of us on this forum(sarcasm)...from your position it sounds like you feel if a person is actively involved in sin:ie pornography, fornication etc.. then that person is different from the person who doesn't do those things BUT,that person maybe doesn't tithe or show goodness or kindness, gentleness is evident to none, doesn't do what he/she ought to do...based on your position it (and i'm assuming)seems the latter doesn't count as "sin"...is that correct?...you said "Why do you want to act like a child with God, saying, "if I do this will you forgive me?"...because some of us are more mature than others, some stronger than others...and we know the strong shall bear the infirmites of the weak... and on the issue of sin james reminds us in 4:17 "anyone, then, who knows the good he outght to do and doesn't do it, sins...passed by any homeless people and didn't help, saw a tv addd for christian childrens fund and didn't send a couple of bucks, knew a friend or family member in need and didn't help...not part of any church ministries...and i could go on...i leave with this question where is rahab(the prostitute) going heaven or hell? |

Stew I'm so sorry I confused you. I assumed we all understood the day to day imperfections that make us human are not what we are talking about. The debate over ‘once saved always saved’ is one where the question is asked can I kill someone and still be saved, can I commit adultery and still have salvation. The point I was trying to make is if your in such a situation and your concerned about your salvation, to me that means the Holy spirit is still at work in your life. If on the other hand your not involved in one of these sins I question why you care. What are you looking for loopholes? As far as acting childish I should have said “child like” or even rebellious. In so many debates the question comes up, “well what happens if I do this”, or “if I do that will God still forgive me?” It sounds like people are looking for limits rather than caring to be holy. Isn’t that ‘child like’ behavior we have all seen? Were a parent tells a child to not to do thus and such and the child pushes the limits to see how far he can get. That my friend is not an immature Christian that is being in rebellion. Again the whole debate over ‘once saved always saved’ or “eternal security” to me is like lawyers reading the tax laws. Few ever read it to see how much they can pay, most read it to see how little they can get away with. Our relationship with God should be based on more meaningful attributes than that. I hope that clears up any confusion I may have caused. Let me ask you a question. How does Rahab's eternal dwelling place effect where you are going to dwell? or where I am going to dwell? or the millions of people before and after her as to where they are going to dwell? EdB |

" That my friend is not an immature Christian that is being in rebellion. "...okay i'm with you now, although is not rebellion in the context of mature and immature a certain sign of immaturity? and since we christians are in so many different states of maturity can a rebellious saint simply be an immature saint? and if so would that be the reason for the the debate?..you asked " How does Rahab's eternal dwelling place effect where you are going to dwell?...in the context of svaed always?? i wanted to point out that i think rahab was saved despite her occupation...you asked further"or where I am going to dwell?" only for the purpose of the raqhab example...you asked" or the millions of people before and after her as to where they are going to dwell? " i guess i stand on the side of once saved always saved unless you purposely renounce Christ...you asked rehtorically" can I kill someone and still be saved, can I commit adultery and still have salvation."...david did both...paul did one...one of the disciples took and ear by violence. are they not saved? |

Stew Blessing my brother? We meet again, alas, crossing the street and going in opposite directions. Immaturity most certainly is the reason for the “debate”. Since there is no way to resolve the debate (Calvinism/Arminianism has been raging for hundreds of years) it is immature to keep it up. But the point I was trying to make was if your living your life as best you can to please Jesus (John 15:10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love.) you really don’t have to worry about what you can get away with. I used as an example if a person is saved the “debate” asks the question can a person murder someone and keep their salvation? I say the question is stupid if you living in Christ you simply won’t murder someone. Stew I used the example of adultery and murder for a person who is saved and then commits them, the question is do they remain saved as these acts are already under the blood or do they need to repent and place these acts under the blood. Again I really don’t care what the answer is because I don’t intend to do either. As for your question about Rahab I was trying to make the point, that the status of her salvation effects nothing other than where she will spend eternity. It has no effect on me, no effect on you, no effect on the millions that came before her and the millions after her. You correctly pointed out Paul and David, who in both cases were in sin they then repented of their sin and God forgave them. Which he has promised to do for you and I. The question of eternal security goes a step further it asks, using Paul for an example, if after being saved had he killed another would he still be saved or would he have to repent again. I say this is a stupid question, after Paul’s salvation he wouldn’t kill again. This “debate” is not about initial salvation it is about living after salvation. It comes down to a debate on what I can and can not do and still remain saved. All I’m saying is that is not how a Christian should approach salvation, A Christian should shoot for the best and let grace cover everything else. |

Greetings EdB! As an Arminian, I would like to agree with you! Gasp! :-) Even Arminians don't believe that acts of sin cause a person to "lose" their salvation. Only one thing can bring me salvation, the gift of Christ purchased with His precious blood. Only one thing (from my perspective) can cost me my salvation, the rejection of that gift. While you and I may see things differently concerning whether or not salvation can be rejected, we both agree that acts of righteousness do not earn us salvation and neither do acts of unrighteousness cost us our salvation. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
