1 | Reviled IN the name of Christ? | 1 Pet 4:14 | Ray | 148754
My Greek/English Interlinear by J.P.Green, Sr has this rendering for 1 Peter 4:14, "If you are reviled in (the) name of Christ, (you are) blessed, because the Spirit of God and of glory rests on you. Truly, according to them, He is blasphemed, but according to you, He is glorified." Getting back to my original question, "How does this relate to our being reviled IN the name of Christ?" 2 | Reviled IN the name of Christ? | 1 Pet 4:14 | Mommapbs | 148766
Greetings Ray - when one is "in the name of Christ" can we agree that this would identify the individual as a Christ follower? Why would anyone be reviled if he/she were not "in" Christ? Seems to me that when someone is "in" Christ one is fair game for the enemy! This is an assurance of our salvation (because the Spirit of God and of glory rests on you)of a sort don't you think? Praying God's blessings upon you dear brother! mommapbs |

3 | Reviled IN the name of Christ? | 1 Pet 4:14 | Ray | 148795
Hi Mommapbs, You have encouraged me in my thinking on the passage, for I agree with you that being in the name of Christ would identify the individual as a Christian. 1 Peter 4:16, "but if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not feel ashamed, but in that name let him glorify **God." James 4:4, "You adulteress, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward **God?" It is time for us all to live up to the name that we go by--Christians. Or as 1 Peter 4:17 says, "For it is time for judgment to begin with [Lit. from] the household of God;..." So my question as a counter of pronouns of Deity is, "How do we interpret this word "Christian" and "Do I include the last part of verse 14 in my personal copy?" From the heart, Ray |

4 | Reviled IN the name of Christ? | 1 Pet 4:14 | Mommapbs | 148842
Greetings on this Lord's day Ray! Are you asking about v 14 or 16? The "disciples" were first called Christians at Antioch (Acts 11:26) What is a disciple of Christ - one who follows where led. We follow because we believe in Him, Who He says He is and who He says we are - His brothers - which of course implies a shared family heritage or a blood relationship right? Think about this a bit! To me, a Christian is one who is incarnated with Christ. (Col 1:27) Thos who do not have the Son (1 John 5:12;Romans 8) do not have His Spirit are NOT Christians (sons of God) - even though they may call themselves as such. God knows who are His. Only those who are indwelt by the Spirit of the living Lord Jesus can truly be reviled for that name. Blessings, mommapbs |
