1 | How can God let us go through pain? | 1 Pet 2:24 | heisthe1 | 42781
Greetings, I pray that your friends parents are saved, Jesus not only died for our sins, but for our pain and sufferings. There are some that would say that we need to suffer, but God says in His Word in 1 Peter 2:24b that by His stripes we were healed. The lying devil will twist all of what God has for us, but we serve a Good God, a God who loves us and care for us, that doesn't sound like a God who wants to hurt us. We should be mad at the devil, he is the one who comes to steal, kill and destroy! The last verse in Psalms 23 says that surely GOODNESS and mercy shall follow me ALL the days of my life. Is pain and sorrow real, you bet they are, but so is the Word of God. God is still healing people, delivering people from addictions and setting people free from the clutches of sin through His Son Jesus. The preaching of the cross to them who are perishing is foolishness, but unto us who are saved, it is the Power of God, 1Corinthians 1:18. There is a process here, being saved and then being healed. This is only a short answer to long question, but I believe God wants to and will heal your friend parents through Jesus, for the Honor and Glory of our God. With God all things are possibe, Matthew 19:26. God bless you as you bring the good news. |

You write: "There are some that would say that we need to suffer, but God says in His Word in 1 Peter 2:24b that by His stripes we were healed." The whole book of Peter is about suufering for the sake of Christ. You have quoted one verse, which refers to our healing from sin (see Isaiah 53), and missed the entire point of the book, which most definitely says that there are godly reasons to suffer: "In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials, so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ" --1 Peter 1:6-7 "For this finds favor, if for the sake of conscience toward God a person bears up under sorrows when suffering unjustly. For what credit is there if, when you sin and are harshly treated, you endure it with patience? But if when you do what is right and suffer for it you patiently endure it, this finds favor with God. FOR YOU HAVE BEENCALLED FOR THIS PURPOSE, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps" --1 Peter 2:19-21 "For it is better, IF GOD SHOULD WILL IT SO, that you suffer for doing what is right rather than for doing what is wrong." --1 Peter 3:17 "Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you; but to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing, so that also at the revelation of His glory you may rejoice with exultation." --1 Peter 4:12-13 "Therefore, those also who suffer ACCORDING TO THE WILL OF GOD shall entrust their souls to a faithful Creator in doing what is right." --1 Peter 4:19 "But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world. After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you." --1 Peter 5:9-10 Peter says that suffering is appointed by God, and has purpose. But so does Paul: "For to you it has been granted for Christ's sake, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake" --Philippians 1:29 "Because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, for this reason, to keep me from exalting myself, there was given me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me--to keep me from exalting myself! Concerning this I implored the Lord three times that it might leave me. And He has said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness." Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ's sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.' --2 Corinthians 12:7-10 God uses suffering; God uses disease. And yes, God sometimes miraculously heals disease. We can always be assured that nothing happens to us without our sovereign God permitting it to happen (Matthew 10:29-31) for His purposes (Romans 8:28). --Joe! |

Joe! When you wrote "that's real solid theology!" surely you meant to say "forumology" -- the kind of convoluted stuff that has become the hallmark of this web site. --Hank

Greetings Hank and Joe! Pray for pastors, teachers, and other church leaders. The forum is an excellent example of the challenge that faces these godly men and women every day. So many 'believers' ignore what Scripture says completely, or mix it with a variety of others pagan or new age beliefs that sound doctrine has become a thing of the past in many churches. I was just reading in my local newspaper tonight about a protestant pastor in another country who is being brought up on charges of heresy because he has denied both the deity and the saving work of Christ. We need a renewed commitment in the church to teach sound doctrine, not the fluff which is so common today. Thanks for your efforts to promote sound doctrine on this forum! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Tim, what you say is regretfully true. While I personally consider myself singularly blessed to be a member of a sound church body that exalts God's word, teaching and preaching it without fear or favor, I nevertheless see enough on TV religious programs and elsewhere to convince me that Christianity is in deep trouble. It is easy enough to draw an inference that many of these far-out programs being aired daily are but a microcosm of what is happening to sound Christian doctrine round the country and indeed the world over. Churches today who uphold sound doctrine find themselves in the ignominious position of being under attack not only by strong forces from without but also from within, even by groups who profess to be members of the body of Christ. The situation is nothing short of being deplorable, but we need fear no power but the power of God, so long as we maintain an unwavering trust in Him, His word, and in His eternal promises. Tim, I'm thankful for you and your fine contributions to this forum. You and a few others have become a solid core of heralds of biblical truth on this forum, without whose steady hand and guiding light this forum would have long since floundered in a tempestuous sea of rancor, discord, and heresy. --Hank
