1 | Should Children Die For Parent's Sin? | Deut 24:16 | Searcher56 | 10944
While the principle of each dying for their own sin is acknowledged in Deuteronomy 24:16, there seem to be cases where it was not put in practice. For example, the child born to David and Bathsheba died because of their sin (2Sa 12:14-18). And Saul's seven grandchildren were put to death because of Saul's sin (2Sa 21:5-9). How are we to reconcile these contradictory sets of facts? The Bible says the sins of the fathers have an ill effect on the children to the third and fourth generations (Exo 20:5; Deu 5:9). Is this a direct contradiction of Deuteronomy 24:16? Steve |

2 | Should Children Die For Parent's Sin? | Deut 24:16 | Good Samaritan | 10966
I take this to mean in the less "literal" sense that we are each responsible for our own error thinking. I want the error to die and awaken to the truth of God's love. We continue to confuse the body with "spirit" which is everlasting. Our error thinking may have an effect in what we model or teach our children. Forgiveness of ourselves, our parents, children and brothers is the solution. Jesus forgave everyone and said: "Forgive them for they know not what they do." That is he saw what we perceive to be a horrendous crime as merely an error in thinking! It is we who have placed different values of guilt onto each error as if one 'sin' were greater than another. There is no order of difficulty in the error and no order of miracles. Jesus taught us that one can be forgiven as easily as another. So much of what HE taught is misunderstood, because we want 'guilt' to be real. We project our belief in guilt onto others. He had no guilt, saw no guilt. He showed only love. Further the old Testament was filtered by men's yet not spiritually evolved minds. What they thought they heard was influenced by their old beliefs and passed on. So the truth was covered (but not obscured).
3 | Should Children Die For Parent's Sin? | Deut 24:16 | Morant61 | 10974
Greetings Good Samaritan! I'm not trying to pick on you friend, but I keep finding statments in your posts that are very non-traditional. Allow me to ask the following questions. 1) If Jesus saw no guilt, how do you explain verses like John 3:18, "Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son." There is no doubt that Christ has extended His love to us at the cross. However, those who refuse that love stand both guilty and condemned. 2) How do you harmonize your statement, "Further the old Testament was filtered by men's yet not spiritually evolved minds. What they thought they heard was influenced by their old beliefs and passed on. So the truth was covered (but not obscured." with passages like 2 Pet. 1:20-21 - "Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. 21 For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit." and 2 Tim. 3:16 - "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness," Both the Old and New Testaments are the inspired and inerrant self-revelation of God. In Christ, Tim Moran |
