1 | does God know all things? Genesis 22:12 | James 2:21 | Ray | 76966
Hi pj cheeks, Welcome to the forum. May I offer to you the marginal note for the MacArthur Study Bible. "22:12 now I know. Abraham passed the test (v.1) He demonstrated faith that God responds to with justification." He adds that we should check out his notes for James 2:21. There he says in part, "Abraham's offering of Isaac demonstrated the genuineness of his faith and the reality of his justification before God. James is emphasizing the vindication before others of a man's claim to salvation." Because God tested Abraham and because he passed the test, we know, the angel [Or Angel] knows, and God knows that God is feared and revered by Abraham. His faith was proven by his works. God knows all things but sometimes as a good Teacher He tests us for our benefit that we might know and others might know how well we are doing. James 2:21, "Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he offered up Isaac his son on the altar? You see that faith was working with his works, and as a result of the works, faith was perfected [Or, completed];..." As a person who is interested in capitalization of pronouns of Deity I could talk about the Angel here but I won't unless there is interest shown by someone. From the heart, Ray |

Ray, Can you show me the verse that stated that God knew the result even before He tested the faith of Abraham? If God really knew everything how can you explain this verses: Ge 18:20 And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous; Ge 18:21 I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know. Can you show based on this verse that God knew already the things that He want to know at sodom before going down. God bless, |

3 | does God know all things? Genesis 22:12 | James 2:21 | Ray | 80220
Hi jlpangilinan, I believe that God was hiding from Abraham what He was going to do. In my mind's eye I can see the Lord asking this question of the two men with Him, verse 17, "Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do,...? Indeed He did for we see in Genesis 19:13 that the orders had already been given. 13 "for we are about to destroy this place because their outcry has become so great before the Lord that the Lord has sent us to destroy it." After talking to the two men [angels] in 18:17-19, I can picture in my mind His then turning to Abraham. Genesis 18:20, "And the Lord said, "The outcry of Sodom and Gomorrah is indeed great, and their sin is exceedingly grave. *I will go down now, and see if they have done entirely according to its outcry, which has come to Me/; and if not, I will know. Then the men turned away from there and went toward Sodom, while Abraham was still standing before the Lord." John 2:24c, "for *He knew all men, and because He/ did not need anyone to witness concerning man for He knew what was in man." The stars and slash marks are mine for comparisons. God knew even while He was conversing with Abraham that fifty righteous men would not be found. He knew that forty-five would not be found; He knew that ten righteous men would not be found in Sodom. But the passage is there as an assurance to us that God is just in His dealings and that He is in control. From the heart, Ray |

Do you suggest that what you picture in your mind is not pictured by the author of the book? Moses wrote this way: Ge 18:20 And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous; Ge 18:21 I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know. The Lord said this to abraham. "and if not, I will know" The Lord said not He knew it already, moses wrote the same thing. If the Lord said that to abraham "and if not, I will know" but He knew it already does this God a liar God? If moses knew that God knew it already then he still wrote that way, moses is a liar too. If moses wrote that way because he dont know if the Lord God knew already about the cry of sodom, then it seem that you are better than moses because you you know that the Lord knew it already the things that moses did not. Again you did show me the passages that the Lord knew it already even before He go down. I want to focus on that verses. God bless, |
