Hi pj cheeks, Welcome to the forum. May I offer to you the marginal note for the MacArthur Study Bible. "22:12 now I know. Abraham passed the test (v.1) He demonstrated faith that God responds to with justification." He adds that we should check out his notes for James 2:21. There he says in part, "Abraham's offering of Isaac demonstrated the genuineness of his faith and the reality of his justification before God. James is emphasizing the vindication before others of a man's claim to salvation." Because God tested Abraham and because he passed the test, we know, the angel [Or Angel] knows, and God knows that God is feared and revered by Abraham. His faith was proven by his works. God knows all things but sometimes as a good Teacher He tests us for our benefit that we might know and others might know how well we are doing. James 2:21, "Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he offered up Isaac his son on the altar? You see that faith was working with his works, and as a result of the works, faith was perfected [Or, completed];..." As a person who is interested in capitalization of pronouns of Deity I could talk about the Angel here but I won't unless there is interest shown by someone. From the heart, Ray |

"Abraham's offering of Isaac demonstrated the genuineness of his faith and the reality of his justification before God. James is emphasizing the vindication before others of an man's claim to salvation." I'm sorry I'm critical but how is this so? This doesn't make sense to me. Just reading the verse makes sense. And also the first line of the explanation makes sense, but not the second. The explanation seem to undo what James said. James don't only emphasize the vindication before others, but also before God. The good question was ask why God said, 'now I know.' This not about vindication before others, but before God. No matter what man think, all that matters is that God know our faith. Unless it is important to be menpleasers. The only kind of faith that matter is an active or obeying one. We must count the cost of being an disciple even before we decide to build the tower. Faith count the costs and repents. When God sees faith then he says of sinner 'now I know' and justifies. Romans 4:2 For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God. 'Cf. (compare) James 2:24. These are two aspects of one truth. Paul speaks of that which justifies man before God, viz.: faith alone, wholly apart from works; James of the proof before men, that he who professes to have justifying faith really has it. Paul speaks of what God sees--faith; James of what men see--works, as the visible evidence of faith. Paul draws his illustration from Genesis 15:6; James from Genesis 22:1-19. James' key phrase is "ye see" (James 2:24 ) for men cannot see faith except as manifested through works.' Scofield, C.I. "Scofield Reference Notes on Romans 4". Don't want to argue but this not right. James and Romans not talking about faith viewed by man and by God. Both are from God's view. God justify the one whose faith is in God. God justifies the one whose faith is active. Same faith, not two different faiths. Thanks. imuvhim |

You say you "don't want to argue, but this not right." I'm not sure you have an argument. I haven't seen it yet. You make assertions, but what is your argument, what is your scriptural evidence, to prove that "this is not right"? It seems all you have to say on the subject is: No, this is not right. Others present evidence to support their interpretation. You do nothing but make an unsubstantiated claim that they are not right. In short, they've supported their interpretation, but where is your evidence that they are wrong? You disagree with their interpretation, but offer no proof for an alternate interpretation. I'm not even sure that you have an alternate interpretation. Apparently, all you "know" for sure is that those who disagree with you are wrong. In your post, ID# 80205, you again write several paragraphs in which you state your opinion. But, again, you offer no scripture to support your assertions. |
