1 | Premarital sex is a sin? | Heb 13:4 | kalos | 112466
Monkman: I am not writing to condemn or criticize you. I speak Bible truth in a spirit of love. You write: "Do I feel guilty?" The Bible defines sin as the transgression of the law. Sin is never defined in terms of our feelings. So the question is not, "Do I feel guilty?" The Word of God is our standard, not our subjective feelings. You write: "I don't consider premarital or postmarital sex in itself to be 'fornication' or sinful." Again, the question is not, "What do I consider to be sin?" or "How do I define fornication (sexual immorality)?". The question is: Does the Word of God prohibit a certain behavior? The question is: How does the Bible define fornication (sexual immorality)? For starters, I would use a concordance to look up and read every occurence of the word "immorality." Use whatever translation you prefer. (The word "immorality" occurs 24 times in the NIV and 22 times in the NASB. "Fornication" appears 18 times in the NKJV.) Using the translation of your choice, read every occurence of "immorality" (or "fornication") you find. What the word means will be indicated by how it is used in context in the Bible. In addition to checking the word's usage in the Bible, I would also look it up in a Bible dictionary, an English dictionary, a Hebrew lexicon, and a Greek lexicon. These study tools are available free online. I and others on the forum will be happy to provide links to them. Shalom, kalos |

2 | Premarital sex is a sin? | Heb 13:4 | BradK | 112467
Monkman, I have to heartily concur with our brother, kalos. He has provided some very sound advice and asked some pertinent questions. Without being repetitious, how would you define extramarital sex?, and upon what Scriptural basis would you establish it's legitimacy? I don't honestly believe you can:-) We should be honest before God, and honest enough with ourselves to not "explain away our behavior" or "make excuses". An excuse is simply the skin of reason stuffed with a lie! As the term "fornication" ( Gr. porneia) can and is translated "unchastity" and "sexual Immorality",how would you conclude that it is not a sin? After all, Rom 14:23 says, "..whatever is not of faith is sin.." Speaking the Truth In Love, BradK |
