Personal profile for user screen name: monkman OK, just found this feature... so here it comes:Yes, I do consider myself a christian, no, I don't think I am a liberal... I am just a little bit fed up with all the fighting going on between liberals and conservatives in christianity worldwide... both sides do have very valid view points, both also can exagerate the importance of their interpretations and mistake them for the divinely revealed truth itself. So, I am dutch, a former catholic monk (I was a novice for 2 years about 8 years ago), I even got 'born again' and was baptized on my faith, although I am not sure my being born again will be recognized by some of you, I will undoubtedly never pass your tests. I am no basher, I always want to communicate with christians from all sides and stances, because that helps me in forming my own faith and opinion... When I was a novice, I used to be a very hardline pope and virgin Mary oriented roman catholic, so I too have committed the sin of hypocrisy and phariseeism, a deadly trap for all of us. So I don't divide christians in phariseeic and tolerant, that's more a battle going on in our own hearts. And with my catholic background, I am not really in the habit of quoting the bible all of the time, although I do try to sustain my convictions by thorough bible study. A final note: I get the impression that for some of us, the bible has replaced the pope with the same dogm of infallibility... I believe in Jesus, the Word made flesh and the bible tells us all about it... I do consider the bible as a guide to the Truth, not as the truth itself.. how could a book ever be the Truth? that would be sacrilegious... So I am not with those who think the bible is just a human invention of pious people trying to make sense out of life and I am not with those who think the bible just fell out of heaven one day (preferably as the 1611 king james bible), as if God was 'incarnated' not in the flesh, but in the pages of a book... I would like to know if others like me are around here... I always like to get acquainted... Anyways, may the Lord bless us all in our daily struggle to be more like Him...
