2 | Is church membership biblical? | Heb 10:25 | Rolff | 207261
There are a number of items the Bible does not talk about directly but are covered under general rules. Romans 16: is about members of the church. Many of the Pauline letters talk about Christians as part of a whole, especially the last chapter of his epistles. 1 Corinthians 5:4 (NASB) In the name of our Lord Jesus, when you are assembled, and I with you in spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus, 5:5 I have decided to deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of his flesh, that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. 5:6 Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough? 5:7 Clean out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, just as you are in fact unleavened. For Christ our Passover also has been sacrificed. This passage is clearly talking about removing one from the church, if not the church membership list. 3 John 1:9 I wrote something to the church; but Diotrephes, who loves to be first among them, does not accept what we say. 1:10 For this reason, if I come, I will call attention to his deeds which he does, unjustly accusing us with wicked words; and not satisfied with this, neither does he himself receive the brethren, and he forbids those who desire to do so, and puts them out of the church. One can’t be put out if they aren’t part of something. While on a different subject, it is one of the strongest “proof texts” for church membership. |

Hi, Rolff... You are answering a post that is something over 2 years old. The questioner hasn't posted since. Hence, you may not get a response. :-) Mark Dever discusses church membership here: http://marks.9marks.org/Mark7 He speaks of it much as you have done. In Him, Doc |

is church membership biblical? I would that the whole of the book of Acts is about the unity of the body of Christ. That in connection with Hebrews 10:25 confirms that very Yes Church membership is biblical. The purpose of this comming together is to build each other up(edify) that we may be more effective witnesses. Though materialist will dispute this but that is what God meant by meat in mine house back in Malachi.
