1 | Only Gospels as Authority? | 2 Tim 3:16 | seekingtruth | 92227
I've been asked a number of moral questions recently (specifically about homosexuality) and was told to only use the Gospels as support. The logic was that the "letters" may be colored by the views of the "author" (even admitting that the true Author was God, it was suggested that the human author's views would have gotten in there). Any suggestions on how to respond?

seekingtruth, Hank is right. There is no logic to your questioners' way of thinking. It is clear that they want to stay in their sins. They will resist the truth no matter what book of the bible it comes from. There is plenty in the 4 gospels that you can present, but since they already decided to pick and choose what they want to believe, it is probably futile. The Gospels are built and founded upon the "Rock of offence", the "Stone that the builders refused", the "Word" that the Old Testament prophets spoke of. Jesus Christ firmly showed himself as the fulfilment of the truths that God had told to faithful witnesses from the beginning of time. To attemp to cut off the old testament is like removing the foundation from a building. And to attempt to remove the Epistles is to take away the power of the Gospel, since the Epistles prove the power of God and the Deity of Christ simply by how living witnesses have believed the report of the Epistles and sustained Christianity for the last 2000 years. By the way here is one scripture to start with: Matthew 7:26 "But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: Pastor Glenn |

You're both right - I suppose the reason I can't win this argument with logic is that it isn't being used on the other side. It's frustrating when the truth seems so obvious and others cannot see it.

If you want to communicate the biblical truth to homosexuals, I recommend the book _The Same-sex Controversy_ by James White and Jeffrey Niell. Your local Christian bookstore should have it or be able to order it. --Joe! |
