In a recent downloadable audio show (MoneyPlan SOS Podcast Episode #10) I discussed the topic of "Should I Tithe while in debt", then I shared my thoughts on items we would or would not tithe on like retirement and gifts (even credit card points, which I would ask why would you have credit cards if you are trying to get OUT of debt?). I hadn't considered unemployment until a friend, who has found himself unemployed, asked me what I thought. My head says "No" but my heart says "Yes, of course". Since the tithe in it's basic form is a physical action of us acting like God, a Loving Giver, then I believe I'll go with my heart's decision on this one. |

Hello SOS, Two things here: 1) This is a Study Bible Forum, so answers are to be biblically-based. While your response is reasonable in that regard, you should back it up with the scriptural basis. 2) I listened to the podcast. While your intent to teach that we should give from how God has blessed is correct, but I must disagree with you teaching the Law to those who should be living under grace. The tithe was an income tax for Israel to maintain the tabernacle/temple and Levitical priesthood. Paul's teaching to set aside what you are able is quite clear. Steve |
