1 | The rapture will NOT happen until... | 2 Thess 2:3 | kalos | 148710
The rapture will NOT happen until... ...after the son of destruction (i.e. Antichrist) is revealed. 'In his second letter to the Thessalonians, Paul tells more details of the rapture of the Church. He states, 'Now we request you, brethren, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him [i.e. rapture], that you not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come. Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God (2 Thess 2:1-4). 'Paul tells the Thessalonian believers that the coming of the Lord and the rapture of the Church will NOT happen until after the son of destruction (i.e. Antichrist) is revealed when he takes his seat in the temple and demands the world's worship. In other words, the rapture of the church will NOT happen until AFTER the beginning of the Great Tribulation.' ____________________ To read more go to: http://solagroup.org/articles/endtimes/ep_0012.html |

2 | The rapture will NOT happen until... | 2 Thess 2:3 | EdB | 148711
That is certainly one point of view, however there are still a few loose ends. First is this passage talking about one or two distinct events? Second if it is one event is 2 Thess. 2 talking about the rapture or is talking about the second coming? Could it be this passage is giving more information about the second coming that isn't included elsewhere? Thirdly, it is agreed it says the son of destruction is revealed, but will we recognized him? Judas is revealed many times as betrayer of Jesus but it wasn't until his action in the garden that the disciples understood he was in fact betraying Jesus. So when it says revealed is does it mean we will all know X is the Antichrist? Or does it mean as we are traveling to heaven we will say of course that was the Antichrist? Or does it mean as we sit as the marriage supper Jesus will teach us that X is the Antichrist? Fourthly how do we reconcile this passage with Matt 24:37-43? Fifthly can we say this is in fact talking about the Antichrist and not the False Prophet or his Beast? I see this presented view as one very possible scenario but there are other views that could occur and not violate scripture. Before someone tries to engrave this in stone as the answer they need resolve the outstanding questions that surround this Scripture. EdB |

Kalos Yes they present answers but it from their point of view. Their point of view is one of many and all base their claim on scripture. The point I'm making is that Scripture does not explicitly define the rapture, it does not explicitly define if there is a rapture, or when it will occur, nor does it answer the 5 points I raised in my first post. The basis for sola scriptura is to be convinced by scripture however on these points we are not given enough scripture or definitions to say scripture provides explicit evidence for any one point of view. We might come to a belief but certainly we can’t say we have irrefutable proof. Again I thank you for your posting on Pre Wrath rapture but I must remind everyone it is only one of many plausible scenarios. The Assemblies of God of which I'm a part hold to pre trib rapture and they supply an equally convincing argument based on scripture to support their position. The book "The Ultimate Victory by the eminent AG scholar Dr. Stanley Horton makes an equally convincing case for pre trib rapture. I find the book Revelations Four View by Steve Gregg to present a very good picture of the most common view of this subject with scripture. EdB |
