1 | Should the pastor be honored as a king. | 1 Thess 2:6 | Makarios | 9388
Greetings Irbroyles! The role of a pastor in the church and just exactly how a pastor should be 'viewed' is explained in Luke 22:24-30.. To be viewed as an effective leader, we must prove that not only is our service to others heartfelt and genuine, but it also must be 'viewed' as such by those whom are our 'flock'.. Only true servanthood will gain true 'followers' and disciples. If we could only grasp this concept, that our Lord alone deserves all the glory, then we would do so much better when we review our own witness in a sober and realistic light. "Then He poured water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet.." John C. Maxwell, the senior pastor of Skyline Wesleyan Church in Lemon Grove CA (largest Wesleyan Church in the Nation), states in his book entitled 'Developing The Leader Within You', "People do not care how much you know until they know how much you care." To respond to your question: No, the pastor should not be treated like a king. However, the pastor should be esteemed on the basis of the pastor's influence and example of servanthood which help define a pastor's overall leadership. Nolan |

2 | Should the pastor be honored as a king. | 1 Thess 2:6 | Thomas8 | 241258
1Th 2:3 For our exhortation does not come from error or impurity or by way of deceit; 1Th 2:4 but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who examines our hearts. 1Th 2:5 For we never came with flattering speech, as you know, nor with a pretext for greed--God is witness-- 1Th 2:6 nor did we seek glory from men, either from you or from others, even though as apostles of Christ we might have asserted our authority. 1Th 2:7 But we proved to be gentle among you, as a nursing *mother* tenderly cares for her own children. 1Th 2:8 Having so fond an affection for you, we were well-pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God but also our own lives, because you had become very dear to us. 1Th 2:9 For you recall, brethren, our labor and hardship, how working night and day so as not to be a burden to any of you, we proclaimed to you the gospel of God. 1Th 2:10 You are witnesses, and so is God, how devoutly and uprightly and blamelessly we behaved toward you believers; 1Th 2:11 just as you know how we were exhorting and encouraging and imploring each one of you as a *father* would his own children, Paul treated people like family, not customers. Did he get a salary? Would he retire? No stages but he was on the streets daily. |
