1 | diety of Jesus, same as God? | Col 2:9 | Searcher56 | 19303
Welcome to the forum, J Arthur, it is very important to understand the diety of Christ -He had no begining (John 1:1,14) and is eternal ( Rev 1:17, 2:8, 22:13), like said of God (Isa 41:4, 44:6, 48:12) -He created all things (John 1:3, Col 1:16-17). God is the Creator (Gen 1-2, Isaiah 40:28) -He is the "I am" (John 8:58) which is a name of God (Exo 3:14) -He gives eternal life (John 10:28) -He is equal with the Father (John 10:30, Phil 2:5-8) -He was called God (John 20:28; Heb 1:8) He knows all things (John 21:17) -He is prayed to (Acts 7:59) ... and only God can be all this. Study and search the Word yourself, for this is just the beginning. Searcher |

2 | help me with Jehovah's Witness' belief | Col 2:9 | roviear | 19355
I tried to discuss the Trinity with a Jehovah's Witness to prove that his "bible" and my Bible were indeed two different books. All the scriptures he mentioned were taken out of context, but he refused to read the entire passage. When I explained that his bible's interpretation changed the meaning, he disagreed. How do I show him the error of picking and choosing without understanding the context and the difference of his bible versus the rest?

They do want to be in control. But, if they want to stop and take verses out of context, then stop them and aks them what the next verse means. One strategy is to present evidence that the Watchtower has lied to its followers. For example, the Society has stated that its founder, Charles Taze Russell, never claimed to be "the faithful and wise servant" of Matthew 24:45, whereas in fact he really did make that claim. If Jehovah's Witnesses can be made to see that the Watchtower has lied to them, there is a good chance they will abandon their faith in the organization. Then, of course, they may be open to hear what you have to say about the truth of the Bible. Another strategy is to present evidence that the Watchtower has published false prophecies. This might be a little trickier, since they have come up with some clever excuses for their erroneous predictions, but with good materials and some good instruction these excuses may be overcome. A third strategy is to introduce biblical material which they likely have never heard before. For example, the Witnesses claim that Jesus did not rise from the dead in His physical body but was recreated as a spirit. In response, you might quote Acts 2:26, which say that Jesus' flesh "dwelled in hope," and then ask how Jesus' flesh could have hope if it was not going to be raised from the dead. This question will probably take them by surprise. Anyone serious about witnessing to the Witnesses needs to spend time studying in preparation. At the same time, as in all witnessing situations, we must witness to Jehovah's Witnesses with the love of Christ and in the power of the Holy Spirit. And remember, as the Bible instructs, "be prepared to give an answer with gentleness and respect" (1 Pet. 3:15). You really don't have to be another one of those Christians who are quickly turned into doctrinal pretzels by Jehovah's Witnesses. You can give answers; you can give them clearly and concisely, and with the power of the Holy Spirit their lives can be transformed. CRI has other material. Go to http://www.equip.org/search/ and type in Jehovah's Witnesses. Hope this helps, Seracher PS They don't come to my home but once. |

You stated: "the Society has stated that its founder, Charles Taze Russell, never claimed to be "the faithful and wise servant" of Matthew 24:45, whereas in fact he really did make that claim." Can you verify this? I am not one of Jehovah's Witnesses, however when people make such claims I would suggest they back it up with quotes and not hearsay. RR |

Which part needs verification? The part about the Watchtower saying that Russell never claimed to be the wise and faithful servant, or the part about Russell himself claiming to be that servant? --Joe! |
