Bible Question: I tried to discuss the Trinity with a Jehovah's Witness to prove that his "bible" and my Bible were indeed two different books. All the scriptures he mentioned were taken out of context, but he refused to read the entire passage. When I explained that his bible's interpretation changed the meaning, he disagreed. How do I show him the error of picking and choosing without understanding the context and the difference of his bible versus the rest? |
Bible Answer: Hello. Sorry, I'm not exactly answering the question, but I'm telling you the best way I know how to convince him. Usually, for this kind of people, it's not logic that they go by. Well, up to a certain point, yeah. But once you've argued your mouth dry with them, you'll discover it's not so much logic that's withholding them from the truth. Well, this might not be in all cases, but in most cases I've come across, that's the case. The key is not in logic. It's in the power of the Holy Spirit to convict them of their sins. They can't see what you're talking about because of spiritual blindness. It's not just logic. It's spiritual. I've debated over whether there was a God with my good friend before (she's still a good friend, don't worry). She's s'posed to be VERY logical, being in debate and all. But at one point, she somehow got very illogical. She didn't seem confused herself. She seemed to know perfectly what she was talking about, but from what I saw, that wasn't the case. So it's not logical. It's spiritual. "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." -Ephesians 6: 12 How to overcome it? Pray. Pray, pray, pray. Do spiritual warfare. Be like the persistent widow Jesus talked about, so persistent that the Judge had no way of refusing her request. Petition for your friend to know the truth, that he should know the truth and the truth will set him free. And after you've prayed, well, I'm not sure how you can accomplish this. Don't bother arguing. Instead, somehow, with prayer and guidance from God, try out methods to just get him to read the pure Word of God. Just God's truth. For the Word of God is like a double-edged sword that cuts through to the bone and marrow. This way, the glory of his being set free won't go to you, but to God. This is to show the world that God alone could save him, and not you. Hope that helped in some way. |
