Mark 3:28 Verily I say to you, All sins shall be forgiven to the sons of men. Acts 13:38-39 Be it known to you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached to you the forgiveness of sins, and by Him all that believe are justified from ALL things. Colossians 1:14 In whom we have redemption through His blood, even the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 2:13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, has He quickened together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses. Romans 6:22 But now being made free from sin and become servants to God, you have your fruit to holiness and the end everlasting life. We as believers have been given by grace the promise of everlasting life. We are also to confess our sins and ask for forgiveness. 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. That is to say we will continue to sin as long as we are in this mortal body, but we must understand that when we sin we ask for forgiveness and by God's grace and the blood of Jesus Christ we are assured that we will be forgiven. | ||||||

Greetings, A question with regards to your answer, “when we sin we ask for forgiveness”. This statement was made right after you quoted the following verse. 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Why would you bother to ask God for forgiveness for your sin when God already said that He would forgive it you would just “confess it”? The word “confess” or HOMOLOGEO in the Koine Greek doesn’t mean to ask for anything, it means to cite, as in a courtroom case, and own up to the guilt. It’s not necessary to ask God for something that He has already said He give us another way. The forgiveness is conditional on our owning up to the sin, not our asking God if he will forgive it. The responsibility is in our willingness to do what God says and that’s confess the sin. He God is faithful, which means He will do it every time. The way he can do this is because His Son Jesus as already paid the price that was demanded of the sin. That’s way God can be just and yet be the justifier of the one that believes in Christ! Have a great day, CDBJ |

Hello CDBJ, I believe by asking God for forgiveness I am acknowledging Him as the only way to receive it. Matthew 6:12 And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. Is this not asking Him for forgiveness? I think that some who confess their sin are not sincere. When we offend someone don't we ask, if we are sincere, to forgive us? So why would we not ask God the same thing? There must be more to be learned by confessing our sin lest we repeat it again. We must completely understand it in order to overcome it. Why then if I have confessed a sin and been forgiven it would I later be convicted so deeply of the seriousness of that sin? I believe that God is teaching me something greater and He leads me into a deeper understanding. Matthew 6:15 But if you forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. So how can we assume that by confessing our sin and if we have not forgiven someone that we can be forgiven? We can't, so I say confess and ask for forgiveness and if there is something I need to do then God shows me what I may refuse to see. God bless. |

Greetings, So if I am hearing you right God will forgive us because we forgive others? Why did God have to send His Son in the first place then, if to be forgiven, all we had to do is forgive others of there sins against us? In effect, with your logic, the world didn't need a Saviour, just an attitude of forgiveness and things would be peachy keen for mankind and that would have made us acceptable in God’s sight! Am I to believe that God is actually impressed with my sincerity in my confession of sin, or the fact that His Son actually died for the sin that I’m confessing? And where on a scale of 1 to 10 does the sincerity actually kick in and count, when it comes to God forgiving me? Maybe at 4.97 the forgiveness really starts to work! Or maybe I could be highly optimistic and just assume that all I needed to do is what God says in the first place, and claim the following as being reliable and truthful. 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Maybe, just maybe, God forgot to tell me about the sincerity part when I exercise and claim the promise of I John 1:9 I hate to appear facetious, but do you get my drift. CDBJ |

…“Only on the footing of sin daily confessed and pardoned can there be any fellowship between us and the eternal God this side heaven, for that footing is the only one consistent with the facts of the case. Let us daily ask the Lord to keep us in a truthful spirit, admitting the truth, both concerning ourselves and our Lord, feeling its power, and desiring to he taught still more of it.” … …”I beseech you, dear hearer, try to fix your eye on Jesus Christ and his atoning sacrifice, and live as a believer in him, and this will make you live as a constant confessor of sin; for when the wounds of Jesus speak peace they also preach penitence, and when the atonement gives us rest it also makes us meek and lowly in heart under a sense of abiding faultiness. As you see what Jesus suffered you will see how you sinned, and as you observe the glory of his merit you will see the horror of your own demerit. Thus may you daily, as long as ever you live, confess sin and find cleansing from all unrighteousness.”… – C.H. Hi WOS, Did you personally hear that sermon: just kidding? I believe the key to staying in fellowship is, Isaiah 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Couple this with, 1 John 1:7-8 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. [8] If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. It always pays to keep “short accounts” with God and not put off the use of I John 1:9 Even knowing all these things, oft times our old sin natures rear up their ugly heads and we need to get back in fellowship. My old sin nature thinks it’s a race driver and he really like to take control in bad traffic especially when other people do dumb stuff; says I. Yours in the Lord, CDBJ |

So that was you I encountered on the freeway! :) I do see your point. These days I find myself more aware of my little detours around God and His Word and tend to relate that to fellowshipping more and it does provide for me to make adjustments. I truly hope I’m not more aware because I do it more often, just simply because He’s making more aware as I fellowship and I’m recognizing more. If I can acknowledge my shortcomings, with faith, He has given me an avenue to correct, because like you stated, our sin nature does rear up their ugly head. WOS |
