1 | Is the sin nature substance or mind set? | Phil 3:9 | John Reformed | 100461
Dear Pam, "Who is we?" "Lets see some Bible in your answer contextually applied and not pet doctrine." Lets see...in my first sentence I said: The sin nature is the inclination of man's heart toward that which is wicked. Gen 6:5 Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. "How does Jesus give us a new heart"? It is actually the function of the Holy Spirit and is called regeneration. John 3:7,8 "Do not be amazed that I said to you, 'You must be born again.' "The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit." "At what point in time does that happen?" Prior to salvation (I can't give a timeline). I only know what I have learned from Scripture and God has not provided us with all we may wish to know, only that which He has been pleased inform us of. We are justified immediately upon being born new creatures in Christ. Sanctification is a process that lasts until our last breath. John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God." "Who's nature is enabling me to win my battles, His or mine?" Gal 2:20 "I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. Apart from Christ we can do nothing. It is the Holy Spirit within that causes us to desire that which pleases God. Phil 3:3 for we are the true circumcision, who worship in the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh, "So what is it, some "magical wand waving thing" we do?" "Not at all". Remember that the battle is the Lord's. Even if we suffer defeat, our ultimate victory is assured. Keep in mind Pam that some people have to work for a living and just don't have the time to answer all your questions in one fell swoop! Peace and Grace, John |

2 | Is the sin nature substance or mind set? | Phil 3:9 | Pam D | 100472
Dear John, I think you meant to post this to Ken hepting and not to me. It is okay though. I just realized that I accidently posted my questions about the sin nature to you John Reformed instead of to Reformer Joe ! I appoligize if I seemed rude by asking you to please stop arguing with Ken and answer my questions. I thought I was talking to Joe! I also addressed the same plea to Ken. I was getting a little frustrated by the bickering. I thank you for your answer to my question but the answer I received from Reformer Joe was the answer I was looking for. I wanted to ask Joe because he was familiar with the reason I was asking those questions to begin with. To follow the background of my questions, read the two part posting of my question to Joe on Thur 10/16. Blessings, Pam |

3 | Is the sin nature substance or mind set? | Phil 3:9 | John Reformed | 100476
Hi Pam, As you can see from the thread, all of us struggle against the remnants of the old sin nature. :-) I find a simple reliance on Christ and His work on my behalf to be the best remedy for guilt and shame. Our trials are used by God as a means of His sanctifying work in us. Our failures are also meant to teach us to cling to the cross. Nothing in my hand I bring simply to the cross I cling john |
