1 | Prophets in the church | Eph 4:11 | BradK | 209791
Hello blood..., This is highly debatable in all honesty. If there are indeed prophets, then they must be 100 percent accurate 100 percent of the time! In Eph. 4:11, the word for prophet would carry the thought of a preacher expounding the Word-speaking forth- than it would as an actual office! "The gift of prophet seems to have been a temporary gift given by the Christ for the laying of the foundation of the church. Prophets were foundational to the church (Ephesians 2:20). The prophet proclaimed a message from the Lord to the early believers. Sometimes a prophet’s message was revelatory (new revelation and truth from God) and sometimes a prophet’s message was predictive (see Acts 11:28 and 21:10). The early Christians did not have the complete Bible. Some early Christians did not have access to any of the books of the New Testament. The New Testament prophets “filled the gap” by proclaiming God’s message to the people who would not have access to it otherwise. The last book of the New Testament (Revelation) was not completed until late in the first century. So, the Lord sent prophets to proclaimed God’s Word to His people. Are there true prophets today? If the purpose of a prophet was to reveal truth from God, why would we need prophets if we have the completed revelation from God in the Bible? If prophets were the “foundation” of the early church, are we still building the “foundation” today? Can God give someone a message to deliver to someone else? Absolutely! Does God reveal truth to someone in a supernatural way and enable that person to deliver that message to others? Absolutely! But is this the biblical gift of prophecy? No." [Gotquestions.org] Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

2 | Prophets in the church | Eph 4:11 | Nevvvvine | 209793
Hi Brad; If there are Prophets in the Church today, holding them to the standard of 100 percent 100 percent, would create a problem for the Prophet that is prophesying for the first time, or the second time before his first prophesy has been 100 percent fulfilled. Were there prophesies that (Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel) gave that were not fulfilled until Christ was born? If so then they would not have been deemed as True Prophets in there own time would they? We have the advantage of possessing the bible to see they were. The question then remains is, how do you judge a Prophet, (by his religious affiliation, age, is he really saved)? See what I mean, all we can do is either believe God still talks to his people (us) or he doesn't. Then it falls into the category of church doctrine determined by religious interpretation of scripture, and we all know, that is not reliable because there are so many different religions. (example) If I said right now, that I had a word of God for the Body of Christ, or thus sayeth the Lord, would you believe me? I firmly believe God can talk to us through Prophets, but only to the Church, I don't put into the same category a word of wisdom, Faith, knowledge to a single person, or group. My understanding would be the whole body. We say about a lot of things, when we want to make our point, that God has not changed, he is the same today, yesterday, and forever. (Except when it is something we personally don't want to believe) because of our religion, then we will find scripture to make our argument, or just declare that the scripture being used doesn't mean what it is saying, or it is only in one place so it cant be true. We have all seen this type of thing happen. Just came into the Forum, saw your post thought I would give my comment on it. Gods Day to you Nevvvine |

Hello Nevvine, Thanks for your response. The focus of my reply was to imply that I choose to believe in the sufficiency of the Word of God, not "so-called" modern-day Prophets! I have confidence in what God's Word says (John 17:17)! However, I do not believe that any true Prophets exist today! Jude 1:3 implores us to "...contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all handed down to the saints." Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

4 | Prophets in the church | Eph 4:11 | Nevvvvine | 209810
Hi BradK; I fully understand your position, but my question to you was focused on HOW could or would you be able to tell if there was a true profit with the criteria of 100 Pc. 100 Pc. I am in on way saying, that there would or should be things that God has not revealed to us already, because we do have the bible as his word to the Church. Or that God only has new things to reveal to us, but isn't it a possibility that God would talk to the Body of Christ to Edify it? Body of Christ being the true church, the believers that will hear the voice of the good shepherd and not another's, but if you have closed your ears, because of the false Prophets of today, that seems just like the kind of thing Satan would do, to discredit the true Prophets God MIGHT send to us. In your statement, saying you don't believe there are any true prophets today. With that belief how would you know if there were any, I personally believe there were Prophets sent by God, to the Jews before WW2 but many said we don't believe them, God would not tell us to leave our homes, businesses, our lively hoods that our fathers, and grandfathers have worked so hard for, and they died because of that belief. Is this belief something you personally have found to be true, or is it something you have been taught by someone else, or is it a teaching from your religious background up until today? I don't mean to be rude, or put you on the spot, thinking you have to defend your belief, you don't I'm just curious. I myself have come from a varied religious background, and I personally have had a battle of my own to overcome things that I was taught as truth that weren't, those things blocked me from seeing God in a much more clear light. My motto now, and for a long time has been. "Never limit God according to what I believe, because he is always bigger, than my beliefs." Be Blessed Nevvvvine |

Nevvveine :: Before getting into the business of considering percentages of accuracy of today's so-called prophets, should we not first search Scripture to determine whether it supports the doctrine that there in fact are contemporary prophets at all? From the multiple passages in Scripture that warn against false prophets we may be sure that there are prophets today whose message is patently false. But are there true prophets? We can extend the question by asking can there be true prophets and what need is there for them if the Scriptures are complete? When we assert that there are divinely inspired prophets today, we affirm that God's word is incomplete and requires additional revelation. Such a position poses a most serious problem, and flies in the face of what the Bible says about itself. See, for example, 2 Timothy 3:16,17. ....... Ephesians 4:11 has been suggested in this thread as a "proof text" in support of the continuation of true prophets from Apostolic times down to the present time. But this text does not support such an assumption, nor does any other passage in the New Testament. ....... There are true prophets today, yes, but not in the sense of being foretellers of the future. There is another sense in which the word is frequently used in Scripture, and that is forth-tellers. In our time those who proclaim the gospel of Christ as it is revealed in the word of God are in fact forth-tellers or prophets. ...... I'd like to close this post by recommending an article by John MacArthur in which he exegetes Ephesians 4:11 as well as sets down an excellent biblically-based exposition of the subject of apostles and prophets. Please note how the Amplified Bible renders Ephesians 4:11 ,,,,,,, Perhaps you and Bloodwashed and others could profit from a study of this article by John MacArthur.
