1 | is water-baptism needed for salvation? | Eph 2:8 | Godinus | 223838
In your use of 1 Peter 1:3, he says, "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead," How has God "caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead," if not through baptism? Isn't this being born again which is spoken of the regeneration of baptism whereby the believer becomes united with Christ in the likeness of His death and his resurrection? It appears to say we walk in newness of life through baptism v.4 Rom.6:3-5 3 Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection, Sounding pretty salvific to me. 2 | is water-baptism needed for salvation? | Eph 2:8 | Beja | 223842
Godinus, Why stop reading Peter there? Keep reading the very passage you quoted, verse 9 says, "obtaining as teh outcome of your faith the salvation of your souls." Then later in verse 23, for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is through the living and enduring word of God. He goes on in this discussion of being born again through the word to say in chapter 2 verse 7, "This precious value then, is for you who believe" And I can hardly believe anybody would dare use Romans to justify baptismal regeneration. Romans 5:1,2 "Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand." Romans 3:24 and following say, "being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. (and on to verse 26)...for the demonstration, I say of His righteousness at the present time, so that he would be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. In Christ, Beja |
