1 | The work of God: hearing with faith? | Gal 3:5 | Ray | 144504
Comparing Galatians 3:2-8 with John 6:28,29. Galatians 3:2, NKJ, "This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? 3 Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh? 4...5 Therefore He who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you, does He do it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?--" Question: Does He work miracles among us by supplying the Spirit or spirit? What shall we do, that we may work the works of God? From the heart, Ray |

2 | The work of God: hearing with faith? | Gal 3:5 | Joy Writer | 144533
I love Galatians chapter 3. I don't really understand the question about Spirit or spirit. Basically what it is saying to us is that when we accepted Jesus as our Savior we believed by faith. Maybe the Galatians were under pressure from Jews to be circumcised and honor the Jewish ceremonies. Paul is telling them that they were not saved by their works but by faith and that their works of the flesh (in their own power) can not perfect them. We must learn to continue in faith - trusting God for everything. We're all guilty of trying to do things ourselves and we don't depend on God until we can't handle the situation any more. Joy Writer :: Welcome! From your first post: "We're all guilty of trying to do things for ourselves..." How true this is! This foolishness of human beings reminds me of a scene from Erskine Caldwell's "Tobacco Road." The setting of the book is in the red clay country of northern Georgia. The share croppers were having a tough time making it because of a severe drought. One of the characters of the book, a share cropper named Ty Ty, went out to his fields to find them parched and his crops in ruin. He decided to pray and stretching his arms skyward, he prayed to the Lord and said, "Lord, you know how bad we need rain down here and I've decided to give you one more chance. But I'm warning you, Lord, if you don't do something real soon, I'll be forced to take matters into my own hands." ..... --Hank

Hi Hank, Your story reminds me of Hebrews 6:7, "For ground that drinks the rain which often falls upon it and brings forth vegetation useful to those for whose sake it is also tilled, receives a blessing from God;" Those who hear the word of God and the message of the gospel, respond in faith and are blessed. Do you think this spiritual rain in Hebrews 6:7 refers back to verse 4 and to our having tasted of the heavenly gift? Do you think that we are partakers of the Holy Spirit or the holy spirit?
