Hi d9uga, Welcome to the forum. You enter the forum at a time when it will be very easy to see examples of this question. We have an ongoing "debate" between followers of Calvin and followers of Arminius. As mere men the debaters will be tempted to assault and judge someone instead of keeping the focus on the opinions expressed. I believe that the difference is one of spirit, especially the spirit of love. It also relates to the desire to test ourselves within ourselves rather than to judge others. We must try to love others as we love ourselves. I think also that we test the spirits of men to look for Jesus Christ and the proof that the (Christ) is within them. 2 Corinthians 13:5-9, NASB, parentheses mine for comparison, "Test yourselves to see if you are of the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you--unless you fail the test? 6 But I trust that you will realize that we ourselves do not fail the test. 7 Now we pray to (God) that you do no wrong; not that we ourselves may appear approved, but that you may do what is right, even though we should appear unapproved. 8 For we can do nothing against the truth, but only for the truth. 9 For we rejoice when we ourselves are weak but you are strong; this we also pray for, that you be made complete." Again, welcome to the forum. You will enjoy it, or continue to enjoy it when the fellowship of the holy spirit is with us all. 2 Cor 13:14, "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God/, and the fellowship of the *holy *spirit be with you all." From the heart, Ray |

I think judging a person isn't right, but expressing an opinion about a person is legitimate. What is judgement (between 2 persons, not in the courthouse)? A difficult matter I think. But an opinion is quite easy. If a person said about me that I were to be an idiot, the man expressed an opinion, and this does not necessarily effects me. But if someone with authority were to say such a thing about me I would be sent immediately for a psychological observation in a suitable compound. In my view the difference lies in the question: 'Was anything done?' Comments? |

John 7:24 "Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment." I think in this case it is important to note that it is an unrighteous judgment that is wrong. At time Christians have to judge. If I were cheating on my wife my brothers in Christ would be obligated to tell me I was wrong. The problem arises when people judge by external things, like someone one told me, "If you don't wear a tie on Sunday you don't respect God.” So judge but only according to what God calls sin, nothing more or less. |
