1 | Can a Christian be a Democrat? | 1 Cor 1:10 | Norrie | 134031 | ||
Is being Born Again and being a Democrat compatible? By Bud Trill I am writing this as a form of information or clarification pertaining to my thoughts on the subject of Christian and secular affiliation. I believe it is quite relevant when I use the term Christian and not the word religion as being synonymous in any way. The word religion has a bad connotation to me and I prefer not to use it. The reason being a person can be classified as having "religion" or being "religious" and not know the one true God, the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior. 1 Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. I also realize that many call themselves Christian but are that in name only. The scripture expressly speaks of this when they are told about their destiny. Matthew 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: I believe that this country was founded by our forefathers with one thing in mind and that being freedom, mainly the freedom to worship God. I also realize that the word freedom can be extrapolated in its meaning by the secular society into anything including perversion. For one to be truly free is to have a personal relationship with God by knowing and accepting Jesus and his finished work as Lord. John 1:12-13 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: [13] Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. Getting back to the original question and cutting to the chase, the answer is emphatically, NO. I have told this view of mine to many people over the years and have experienced quizzical looks to outright guffaws. I will not call these people unlearned (stupid) but just the lack of a thought process of their own. Do not misinterpret me in any way of backing any other political party, completely. I am only describing the worst of evils in picking on Democrats. I realized this even before I became spiritually enlightened (saved) on November 19, 1964. All one has to do is read and observe as I believe that actions really speak louder than words. There may have been sometime in history when politicians were actually motivated with something other than greed and self-gratification, only God can judge the hearts of man. 1 Samuel 16:7 But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart. cont... |

Norrie: You wrote: "I believe that this country was founded by our forefathers with one thing in mind and that being freedom, mainly the freedom to worship God." I'm not aware of any problems the British citizens in America had with their government as regards freedom to worship. The issue I recall had to do with taxation without representation, and it led to a bloody revolution against the Caesar of the time. Glory Bound and you seem to get the gist of my initial comments (tongue in cheek) - politics divides, rather than unites, Christians. As such, we do well to consider the origin of politics, nationalism, etc. The true God is a God, not of disorder, but of peace. (1 Cor 14:33) I thank those who do not totally ignore my comments made in earnest because we may disagree on certain doctrine. Jesus said that wisdom is proved righteous by works. As someone so correctly pointed out - A Christian is much more than someone that believes. "Anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple." (Luke 14:27) "By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." (John 13:35) May the "Prince of Peace" continue to be a source of strength and light to you. |
