1 | SPEAKING IN TONGUES IN CHURCH?? | 1 Cor 14:26 | Morant61 | 159465
Greetings Seeker! I can only give you my perspective of this question. :-) Simply put, very view people actually follow the commands of Scripture when it comes to tongues. Either they will be explained away completely as not for today, or they will be unduly focused upon and practiced in a manner that is inconsistent with the commands of Scripture. Scripture simply never allows for mass, uninterpreted tongues speaking in a service. I hope this helps! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

2 | SPEAKING IN TONGUES IN CHURCH?? | 1 Cor 14:26 | ngkh | 159472
My thoughts to this question. Commentaries Even an apostle could not edify, unless he spoke so as to be understood by his hearers. To speak words that have no meaning to those who hear them, is but speaking into the air. That cannot answer the end of speaking, which has no meaning; in this case, speaker and hearers are barbarians to each other. All religious services should be so performed in Christian assemblies, that all may join in, and profit by them. Language plain and easy to be understood, is the most proper for public worship, and other religious exercises. Every true follower of Christ will rather desire to do good to others, than to get a name for learning or fine speaking. (1Co 14:15-25) What Paul said is when you preach or sharing the Word, do not use a language that is not understood speaking in tongues included. But when we pray, it is between us and the Lord, and I believe praying in tongues in a spiritual language connecting to God as God is Spirit. John 4:24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth." I've never heard of a sermon spoken in tongues except when he and the whole church pray. If you would really open up your mind to the Lord and try praying in tongues, you can really feel a difference whether you have connected with God or just shooting blanks which I sometimes felt too. |

5 | What's the Greek word 4 worship Jn 4:24 | 1 Cor 14:26 | Searcher56 | 159669
The Greek word for worship in John 4:24 is proskuneo, not latreuo. When proskuneo and latreuo are in the same verse (Mat 4:10, Luk 4:8, Rom 1:25), it is always translated worship and service ... not service and service. Service (latreuo) and worship (proskuneo) are two different acts, tho they are linked together. |
