I absolutely agree with Acts 2:38. It is not necessary to be saved or to receive the Holy Spirit! Luke 24:49 "And behold, I am sending forth the promise of My Father upon you; but you are to stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high." John 1:33 "I did not recognize Him, but He who sent me to baptize in water said to me, 'He upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining upon Him, this is the One who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.' John 14:16 "I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; John 15:26 "When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me, John 16:7 "But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you. John 16:13 "But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. Acts 2:33 "Therefore having been exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has poured forth this which you both see and hear. 1 John 2:27 As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him. There is no pre-requisite to receive the Holy Spirit other than to believe on Christ Jesus! And NOWHERE is it ever a requirement to speak in tongues of any kind! In Love, Mike p.s. I apologize, I think many of us took this topic off on our own and did not answer the original question. |

Hi Mike, Sorry, Mike, but I just had to step in here, I hope you don't mind. I agree with what you said, but I had a problem with the first line, where you said: "I absolutely agree with Acts 2:38. It is not necessary to be saved or to receive the Holy Spirit!" I think you may want to rephrase that? It kinda leaves you hanging out there without coming to a conclusion, like it isn't necessary at all, and It looks like you may even be saying, you don't need to be saved to receive the Holy Spirit. I know you don't really mean that it isn't necessary at all, or, an unsaved person can receive the Holly Spirit, but the way you phrased it, it kinda looks that way. At least to me it does. Sorry, I know the rest of your post clarifies it, but it does look kinda odd. Again, sorry for splitting hairs, but to these old tired eyes, it sure looked funny till I read it a few times. :-) I hope you are enjoying the forum. John |

Thank you, I was trying to find a way to edit that, I wish we could add that function to our own posts. allow me to refrase. It is not necessary to speak in tongues to be saved or to receive the Holy spirit! Receiving the Holy Spirit is automatic upon receiving Christ as our Savior. Acts 2:38-39 38Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call." |

Hi strts5 I have enjoyed your posts. Just as a possible help for you,Morant61 once posted that he was having trouble with loosing his posts before they would be finished, and he started to use an E-Mail then copying and pasting it to the forum. I find this to be a good way to do it, with the added advantage of a spell check, which a lot of people can also use:-) Hope this helps you Vintage68 |
