Hi again, Mike, If I may just add this to my last post for your consideration. Paul says, that someone must interpret the tongues. Now what does that mean? How do you interpret a tongue or language? Let me offer you this. In order to interpret a language, you must be able to speak and understand that language. Right? So what Paul is saying is, that someone in the room must be able to understand that language. So that language, must be known to that person, though it may not be known to the others in the room. What he is saying is, not that the language is totally unknown, like gibberish, but that it is unknown to all but the one it is intended for, in order to give the Gospel to someone who speaks a foreign language, just like on the day of Pentecost. That is, as no one will argue, the legitimate gift of tongues. I hope that helps John |

God's day to you John, It is possible that the interpeter doesn't know the tongue either. Remember it is a spiritual, not natural, gift. A man went into a church and was granted permission to speak in a tongue. I quoted John 3:16, in Greek. Then another stood up and interpeted ... something else. The first man then got up and said that is not what he said. A member of the church, who was a Greek prof, got up and agreed with the first man and said he quoted John 3:16, in Greek. Not all churches who have one person speak in a tongue, then have it interpeted, are genuine. Searcher |

It seems to me the whole thing you related to me was completely pointless. If wish to quote John 3:16 to my Church I'll do in in english so everyone will understand and be edified. Sorry, but that stuff is nothing but childish showing off. Very frankly, I'd be embarrassed to be in a situation like that. God doesn't have anything new to add to His word. So why on earth would He give someone something to say that we should already know in the first place-!? Sorry Searcher but thats nonsense. John |

John - Could be nonsense-childess. But, it was to make a point that the church was a fake as far as the tongues-interpetation gifts. S |

Hi John Paul did not need to take 3 chapters on how tongues were to be used, in order for him to say, these Gifts of the Holy Ghost, this speaking in tongues, it's all wrong, please for Gods sake stop doing it! You, and others seem to be under the impression, that is exactly what he did say. Why not study the matter with the guidance of the Holy Ghost? The problem with this thread is, Paul did take 3 chapters to talk about the proper use of these Gifts. This whole discussion thus far, has only been about everyone trying to make their points, using all three chapters to do so. In order to do proper exegesis. Each chapter in order needs to be examined in the context of what is being said within that chapter. The discussion thus far has not been so, it has sadly been a putting forth of personal views, experiences, presuppositions, and the like. It would be nice if the people on this Forum, put aside their own personal doctrines, beliefs, prejudices. Then set about the task of doing the thing, this forum was designed to do. What I see needs to be done, is that everyone stop posting on this thread, step away from it, take off until Tuesday, whereupon a new thread would be started. During this time of rest, pray for an open heart, and mind, and a willingness to accept the truth from the WORD of God. Biblical exegesis is a critical explanation or interpretation of the Bible. The goal of Biblical exegesis is to find the meaning of the text which then leads to discovering its significance or relevance. (From Wikipedia) an explanation or critical interpretation of a text (From Merriam-Webster dictionary) critical explanation or interpretation of a text or portion of a text, esp. of the Bible. A ringing endorsement of sound exegesis, form one who holds such high esteem, the teachings of worldly teachers as Aristotle and Anatole France. Perhaps I should read more of what they have to say. It has been said and, it is quite interesting that, one who thinks so highly, what the Holy Spirit has taught to himself, should think so little of what He has taught to others. If you are of such a mind, pray, remain so, it's not worth the time to try to convince you otherwise. |
