Anyone can recieve the gift of speaking in tongues, all you do is ask, believe, and recieve. John 16:23 Jesus says,"Truly, Truly, I say to you, if you ask the Father for ANYTHING in My name, He will give it to you." Eph. 6:18 With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit... We are not able to pray at all times in our own dialect, we would run out of things to pray about, but when you recieve the baptism of the Holy Ghost, you are then able to PRAY AT ALL TIMES!!! Speaking in tongues is a gift, so recieve it, its a way to speak to God with out satan knowing what you're praying about and its self edification. When you don't know what to pray for your Spirit ALWAYS knows what to pray for. With Love... Julia Marie |

Hello julia-marie, Welcome to the Forum. If I may, this is a highly debatable and emotionally charged topic, so be aware that all may not be in agreement... myself included:-) First, John 16:23 needs to be understood in it's CONTEXT- and quoted text verbatim! Without context, all you have is pretext. The entire verse reads, "In that day you will not question Me about anything. Truly, truly, I say to you, if you ask the Father for anything in My name, He will give it to you." (NASB) To what does, "In that day..." refer to?. I would offer that it's not tongues!; Second, Eph. 6:18 reads "With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints," (NASB) Again, the entire context of the verse- and passage- must be considered. The context is speaking to the "armor of God" and it is Christ personified in these attributes!; Third, does not God understand English? Though tongues is indeed a gift, not all have it (1 Cor. 12:30), nor are they supposed to. I would much rather seek the "more excellent way"- Love and the Giver of the gifts, the Lord Jesus Christ! Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |
