"What is truth?" Pilate asked the question nearly 2000 years ago. It has been asked many times since then. Christians should be very careful with their definition of truth. Over my 50 years as a Christian, I've had occasion to discover that some of the things I once called absolute truth have been nothing more than my lack of understanding of what truth really is. I have every reason to thank God, and I do thank Him, for putting up with my shortcomings, with my imperfect perception of His truth, and for His kind patience in teaching and guiding me through His word to a better understanding of His eternal truths. I see through my glass darkly still but see nontheless more clearly as the years roll away. But I think there is something inherently wrong when we come to feel that our perception of truth is the final word. It is easy enough to convince ourselves that we are so very right. And when we do, we cease to seek correction, even from Scripture. We are in terrible trouble when we measure by our own plumb line. The only way I have learned in all my years to keep myself from going left or right is consistently and honestly to measure the way I walk by the standard of God's word. Before I try to preach the truth to others, I must first seek the truth from God. Before I ask God to correct the faults and errors of my fellow man, I must first ask Him to correct them in myself. --Hank

Hank, Thank you for the words of wisdom. I agree with you that the only truth there is, is the Word of God. That is why this thread started to begin with. I asked where it taught water baptism as an outward sign in the Bible, and have been bombarded with everything but Bible. Is my question not fair to ask? Should I accept peoples opinion over scripture? This discussion has definetly been pulled far from the simple answer I asked for in the beginning. It's taken paths that have caused me to sin in my responses. I regret some of the things I have said but still hang here waiting for an answer to the original question... Kin |

It is not true that you "have been bombarded with everything but Bible." Anyone who can read could sample the responses to your question and see that relevant Bible passages are included in many of the replies. I'm sorry you feel you have to bend the truth to prove your point.

There was one reference to Acts 8:38 as defense for "outward sign", which is purely assumption. |
