Hi, I have used my pencil eraser since I made this post that I am attaching to here. In the Romans 8:9-16 passage I now choose to put in lower case FIVE words of "spirit" instead of only THREE earlier. I would like some input from the forum concerning this change. I now see these comparisons of Scriptures: Romans 8:16, "The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of (God)." Acts 15:7,8, "And after there had been much debate, Peter stood up and said to them, "Brethren, you know that in the early days God made a choice among you, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe. 8 And God, who knows the heart, bore witness to them, giving them the *holy *spirit, just as (He) also did to us." Acts 5:32, [as I see it], also see NKJ, "And we are His witnesses of these things; and so is the *holy *spirit, which God has given to those who obey (Him)." Comments and Scriptures, please. From the heart, Ray |

Ray, I've read this post at least four different times. I have some questions before I dare to answer. 1. What is it that you're asking. What are you seeking. 2. Why the lower case 's' in Spirit and Holy Spirit?? What am I missing Ray?? TheCurtMan |

Hi CurtMan, Perhaps my post to Tara1 will answer part of your questions. I am asking people to be open to the thought of being filled with the holy spirit. I am asking if my Scripture comparisons are meaningful to anyone while using lower case spirit in some places. I am seeking in my personal study to have pronoun totals that are divisible by three. Ask away; feel free. From the heart, Ray |

Thanks for straightening me out on that. I'm all for being filled with the Holy Spirit. It's to my understanding that if you do not have the Spirit of God residing in you, there will soon be a time when you're going to wish you had. As far as the lower case spirit in reference to the Holy Spirit. I guess I would be one of a group who would find it degrading and offensive. The Holy Spirit is just that, Holy. So why print His name in a lower case thereby denying Him the respect that is due Him, for any reason?? That is unless you do not believe that the Holy Spirit is God. That being the case, then I guess you could print His name anyway you want. It's kinda like Jesus with a small 'j', or Jehovah with a small 'j'. One other thing Ray. I know that sometimes the tone of these letters tend to be misleading. If I'm coming across any other way then frank and straightforward, then it is not intentional. You ask what I thought. Hi The CurtMan, I do not wish to put His name in lower case. But I believe that there are many cases where Holy Spirit is capitalized when it is not talking about the Holy Spirit. There are many places where Spirit is capitalized when it is actually not speaking of the Holy Spirit but rather is talking about an angel. Ezekiel 3:12, 14; 8:3, 11:1, 24, and 43:5 are examples of an angel lifting up Ezekiel and it speaks of the Spirit lifting him up. I think that we should distinguish between an angel and the Angel; between a spirit and the Spirit. Ezekiel 36:26 speaks of "a new heart and put a new spirit within you". Verse 27 says "I will put My Spirit within you". Ezekiel 37:14 says "And I will put My Spirit [marginal note, Or, breath] within you and you will come to life". I am asking for a discerning spirit and a testing of the spirits so that we know who or what we are talking about. From the heart, Ray |

Hey Ray, I agree with you. Distinguishing the Word of God is highly important. Giving the fact that you're right, how do you go by rectifying that which is already in print?? Also, is there a Hebrew word that refers to angel and spirit?? I ask because I honestly don't know. What I honestly believe is that God is the Author of His word. I believe that He had His word written the way He wanted it written, II Peter 1:20-21. According to the King James Version of this verse, the bottom half of v.21 says, “…but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” Correct me if I’m wrong, but could this verse indicate that these men wrote as they were instructed to write?? And could this come right down to the very words that they used?? And could I Cor.2:13 be used to validate this point?? Or are these errors the result of translational differences?? And just for the record, I have looked up the verses you provided, and I can see your point, especially in Ezekiel 36:26. There has to be a reason why it is written the way that it is, and I have to believe that it’s the way God wanted it to be. Anything else raises too many questions in my mind. The CurtMan |
