1 | Spirit of Adoption/ God as Father | Rom 8:15 | imallforgod | 53605
My discipler has given me an assignment...To research and write a paper on the spirit of adoption. I have struggled recently with all concepts of God in my life being shattered and the first one I am tackling is the concept of God as MY father. The difficult comes with trying to reconcile a perfect HEAVENLY father with my earthly father who was at the least abusive. I think the intent is that the research will show me more of God's character. She told me to keep it under 100 pages :) I'd love to hear personal stories or thoughts and I would especially love Scriptural references, commentaries, links etc. References I'm using now is Romans 8 (a good portion of it) as well as talking about slavery vs. servant hood and how it relates and about orphancy. Greatly appreciated! Stephanie |

2 | Spirit of Adoption/ God as Father | Rom 8:15 | Emmaus | 55359
imallforgod, Mine is a late response to your original post and it may not relate directly to the specific task on which you are working. I thought based on one of your comments you might find this book of interest. It is "Faith of the Fatherless" by Paul Vitz, a professor of Psychology at Boston College. You can find it at Amazon.com. It deals with the effect and consequences of absent or abusive fathers on the ability of their children to relate to God as Father and how it leads many to atheism. One of the chapters is titled "The Psychologies of Unbelief." It is filled with the examples of real historical well know and influential people. Emmaus |
