2 | Paul's flesh | Rom 7:25 | Ray | 110242
Hi Thomas8, I would have you compare Romans 7:25 with Romans 6:6. When you do that you can see that Paul has said that his old self was crucified with Christ. Romans 6:6,7, "knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, that our body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin; 7 for he who has died is freed from sin." When Paul is saying that he is now serving the law of God it means that he is serving in newness of the (Spirit ) and not in oldness of the letter. See Romans 7:6. The law of the (Spirit) --of life in Christ Jesus has set us free from the law of sin and of death. Romans 8:2 We set our minds on the things of the (Spirit). Romans 8:5 His (Spirit) indwells us. Romans 8:11. The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of (God). Romans 8:16. And in the same way the (Spirit) also helps our weakness. Romans 8:26. We are called according to (His) purpose. Romans 8:28. But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through (Him) who loved us. Romans 8:37. The (Christ) according to the flesh is God blessed forever. Romans 9:5 Romans 6:22, "But now having been freed from sin and enslaved to (God), you derive your benefit, resulting in sanctification, and the outcome eternal life. 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." 3 | dead body | Rom 7:25 | Thomas8 | 110362
Hi Ray, Since the old man is crucified, why does Paul say: (1Co 9:27 KJVA) But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: ... A dead body does not have to be brought into subjection. Are you saying that Paul's flesh does not serve the law of sin? Thank you, Thomas |

Greetings Thomas! Do you mind if I respond? In Rom. 7-8, Paul is talking about the sin nature (or the 'sarx'). In 1 Cor. 9:27, Paul uses a different word. He refers to beating his body (or 'soma') into subjection. In 1 Cor. 9:27, Paul is not speaking of a sin nature, but rather the kind of discipline that an athlete would use to win a contest. Two different words are used with two entirely different meanings. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Hi Tim, Thank you. How do you understand "but with the flesh (sin nature) the law of sin." Is Paul here saying it still exists? Sincerely, Thomas |
