1 | What is the exceeding sinfulness of sin? | Rom 7:13 | Aixen7z4 | 125183
I thought of asking, “What is so bad about sin?” but I felt that some would not understand. They might think that the intent here was to trivialize sin, when the intent is quite the opposite. Nor does it bring out the full meaning, to say that sin is a bad thing. Paul says (Romans 7:13) that sin can be exceedingly sinful. That wording seems to be effective. Ray Comfort emphasizes the fact that people will not understand what it means to be saved until they understand what sin is. And in some sense it is sin that we are saved from. “Thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21). “To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins” (Act 10:43). The fact of sin should be emphasized, and Comfort often uses the Ten Commandments to prove the point. People come to accept the fact that they have sinned. All have sinned. Yet that very fact will lead some to say they are only normal, or human. But sin is a very bad thing, and Paul says the Law brings out the fact. But what makes sin such a bad thing? It is my hope that we discuss that here and expose the malignity and wickedness of sin. Perhaps it will help a unsaved to better understand his need of salvation. Perhaps it will help a believer to stay farther away from sin. |

2 | What is the exceeding sinfulness of sin? | Rom 7:13 | EdB | 125189
I'm of the opinion Aixen7z4 is trying to profit financially by our efforts here on the forum. He includes links from his website, on which he offers ‘for cost services’, to threads here on the forum. I believe he does this for various reasons. One to add an air of credence to his offerings. Two to have points of view both good and bad to share with clients and three to build a knowledge base. 3 | What is the exceeding sinfulness of sin? | Rom 7:13 | Aixen7z4 | 125191
Please be careful. My brother who is an employee of the Lockman Foundation thinks you are attacking them and accusing them of hosting a Forum in order to attract people who will buy the Bibles which they are selling for a profit.
4 | What is the exceeding sinfulness of sin? | Rom 7:13 | Hank | 125198
Aixen7z4: Your post seems to reflect a misunderstanding or misapplication of the facts. In the first place, EdB in Post 125189 was speaking of your web site, not Lockman's or StudyBibleForum's. He never as much as mentioed the Lockman Foundation, much less accusing them of hosting a Forum in order to sell their Bibles at a profit. In the second place EdB knows that Lockman is a nonprofit organization, and you should know that too. If you don't, click on "Lockman" at the top of this Forum's home page and you will find the following statement at the top of Lockman's home page: "The Lockman Foundation is a nonprofit, interdenominational ministry dedicated to the translation, publication, and distribution of the New American Standard Bible, La Biblia de las Americas, the Amplified Bible, and other Biblical resources." --Hank
5 | What is the exceeding sinfulness of sin? | Rom 7:13 | Aixen7z4 | 125200
My brother says he is aware of all these things and is not worried, that Lockman’s reputation is secure. Still we find it interesting that someone thinks a person who works as a Christian professional should offer his services for free. Do pastors do that? Do booksellers? How then do they pay their bills?? (But now we seem to be asking the question Paul asked in 1 Corinthians 9). We wonder how the issue ever came up. Perhaps we can drop it now, and return to the topic of this thread.
6 | What is the exceeding sinfulness of sin? | Rom 7:13 | EdB | 125202
Aixen7z4 I have no problem with a professional earning a living. I do have a problem with a person trying to get a free ride on someone else's efforts. I thought this was the topic of this thread, unrighteousness. EdB |

7 | What is the exceeding sinfulness of sin? | Rom 7:13 | Aixen7z4 | 125223
This brother wants us to discuss the nature of sin, as expressed by Paul in Romans 7:13. He says it is his hope that we can expose the malignity and wickedness of sin. Perhaps it will help a unsaved to better understand his need of salvation. Perhaps it will help a believer to stay farther away from sin. But I am not sure about that. He has a web site that is confusing and user-unfriendly. He links it to good sites but that is not good. We have already told him it may be unethical and illegal, but he does it anyway. I believe he does this for various reasons. One to add an air of credence to his offerings. Two to have points of view both good and bad to share with clients and three to build a knowledge base. Of course, I am not sure, but I wonder. I know that where some body accuses another of an action, when it in fact what they accuse the other of is the very thing they use as a basis to justify their own actions. But I wonder. Why don’t we just forget about this man and his website. We do not have to visit his web site, and we are not responsible for his weaknesses and his sins. But no. I think we should ban him from this web site. Don’t let him even ask questions, especially about sin. But, speaking about sin, why don’t we discuss the nature of sin. Sure he may benefit from our knowledge. He may even share our ideas with his clients. And remember, he may be building a knowledge base. But it is possible our discussion will make him aware of the sinfulness of his sin. Maybe it will cause him to repent. Maybe he will fix his web site, if he can, and delete those links, and stop charging people for his services. Maybe he will close his practice down. It is probably no good anyway. Based on his own behavior, he is not a good example. Maybe he even teaches people how to sin. Let us expose the malignity and wickedness of sin. |
