1 | knowledge of sin needed for salvation? | Rom 6:23 | tortoise | 113712
What do we need to know to be saved? a) Do we need to know that we have sinned and that sin is displeasing to God? Is this sufficient? (Some people see a few external sins but do not see the internal sins and the sick condition of the soul that Jesus spoke of.) b) Do we also need to know and comprehend that sin results in death, judgement and condemnation in order to be saved? c) Failing to grasp the full sense of our sins (a) and/or the result of sin (b), above, is it sufficient to know that Christ died for us and that it was a really big deal and to be assured of His love for us and to hold onto this knowledge? |

2 | knowledge of sin needed for salvation? | Rom 6:23 | Makarios | 113713
Greetings Tortoise, Yes, a person needs to know that they have sinned (Romans 3:23; 6:23), and that sin is displeasing to God (for example: Leviticus 20:9-10), for which the penalty is death. It is very important to understand that death is the result of sin. Man is, therefore, in need of a Savior because of sin and death. And yes, we need to know and comprehend that sin results in death. Once we have understood that we are guilty of sin and are in need of a Savior, then.. "For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit;" 1 Peter 3:18 "But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us!" Romans 5:8 Once we realize that having faith in Christ is the only way that we can be saved from sin and death, then we must accept Christ by faith (Ephesians 2:8) and confess Him as Lord and Savior (Romans 10:9,13) "With the heart one believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth one confesses, resulting in salvation." Romans 10:10 Notice, Romans 10:10 does not say a single thing about baptism. :-) Blessings to you, Makarios |

Hi Makarios, We have about 10 people in our church that can’t speak. Do you think I should press the issue of Romans 10:10 since they can’t be saved? How is that for a horse of another color, CDBJ |

6 | knowledge of sin needed for salvation? | Rom 6:23 | Makarios | 113724
We can't sleep, we're having too much fun with baptism.. :-) Very soon, I may not be posting as much anymore, so I have to stay up late to get in as many words in as I can. But later on, when life has settled down a bit, I may come back, full speed again. But the time is coming, soon, when I will be forced to take a break, in order to start my own family. Blessings to you, Makarios |

CDBJ: Marriage, they say, is an institution, and it looks like Makarios is getting ready to spend the rest of his life in an institution :-) Oh, well, what can I say? I've been institutionalized for almost 45 years! --Hank
9 | knowledge of sin needed for salvation? | Rom 6:23 | CDBJ | 113773
Hi Hank, I didn’t know what true happiness was until I got married, but by then it was to late to do anything about it! Just kidding, I have had the best helpmate in the world for over 46 years now. Having an opposite number that loves the Lord sure makes life on this side enjoyable. She is a lot more tender hearted then I am, as you have probably would have guessed by now! Have a great day, CDBJ |
