Schmythe The men I was speaking about are not pastors but rather hirelings that Jesus warned us of. You stated it was your desire to become a pastor let me give you some advice. If there is anything else in this world you can be happy doing then do that instead. If not and you still desire to pastor come with no personal expectations or limitations, come and preach the Word. Today to many men/women go into ministry demanding thus and such, seeking this or that and refusing to do this or that. If your truly God’s servant come in with nothing and let God lead you where your going. Ministry is not a career nor a profession it is a life style you must be prepared to live. If not you will soon become a hireling that I’m talking about. Also beware Satan will attempt to attack you in three areas. He will attack you sexually trying to corrupt your ministry. He will attack you financially trying to destroy your ministry by financial indiscretions. He will steal your time so you can not study or pray, YOU MUST PREACH FROM OVERFLOW NOT NEED. If there is anything I can do to help you along in your endeavor please let me know. EdB |

Hi EdB. I know you were addressing Schmythe in this note, but after reading his comment, I couldn't wait to see yours, for his desire for the pastorate reflects mine. In my mind and heart, I know it's no piece of cake. I know I'm not ready. I'm not even sure it's the Lords will for me. I have already wasted nearly half a century of my life. I have determined to dedicate the remainder of my life to the service of the Lord, in whatever capacity He decides. "Not mine, but Thy will be done." In having come to this determination, I have applied myself to reading, studying and “learning” The Word in it’s unleavened purity. I’m in the process of getting set up to get a degree in theology, or something of the sort through a previous church of ours in Ala. If you have read many of my posts, you should know me fairly well, to a point at least. I have come to respect and admire your opinion, and I would sincerely appreciate any comments, constructive criticism and advice you are willing to provide. Thanks George |

George As I told Schmythe if there is anything else in the world you can do other than pastoring then do it! I would not even consider it until I was sure, that I was sure, that I was sure God was calling me into ministry. Once again it is not a job, a profession, nor a career. It is a lifestyle that you and your spouse must be willing to sacrifice to live. Continue with your studies, there is always a need to people that have studied the Word. Perhaps your call is not to pastor a church, but serve in a parachurch ministry, or as a chaplain, perhaps a teacher, or as an Aaron to your Pastor, holding his arms up. If I can help let me know EdB |
