Bible Note: Hello Hank. I hope this note finds you well. There are those who see Jesus and look to Him for what He can do for them. They recognize that He is the Son of God and even believe in their heart that He died for them and rose after three days and now sits at the right hand of the Father but that is as far as it goes. Albiet that is pretty far but it is not what Jesus wants from us. They recognize Him but have no relationship with Him. Jesus did not proclaim the mysteries of God to the followers. He did reveal them to those who are close to Him. Matt. 13:10 through Matt. 13:12 (ASV) 10And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables? 11And he answered and said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. 12For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that which he hath. The multitudes followed and heard parables but the disciples heard the deep things of God, even to the extent that some were so hard to grasp that they left Him to walk with Him no more. There is a difference between those who follow Jesus and those who walk with Him. Does this answer your query? Have I made my statement clear? Do you need more detail? Am I off base? Matt. 4:25 (KJV) 25And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judaea, and from beyond Jordan. Matt. 8:1 (KJV) 1When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him. Matt. 8:10 (KJV) 10When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. Matt. 12:15 (KJV) 15But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew himself from thence: and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all; Matt. 19:27 through Matt. 19:30 (KJV) 27Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore? 28And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life. 30But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first. Mark 6:1 (KJV) 1And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him. John 6:60 through John 6:66 (KJV) 60Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it? 61When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you? 62What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before? 63It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. 64But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him. 65And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father. 66From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. Matt. 8:23 (KJV) 23And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him. |
