1 | Are we Stupid or Lazy? Our Soul at stak | Rom 14:12 | GeorJoy | 89280
I see so many questions here. I am gratefull for them for they make me think and research. What I simply don't understand is WHY there are so many LAZY people where the WORD of God is concerned. It is ones MORTAL SOUL at Stake. Why do people ALWAYS turn to people for the interpritation of Gods word? Surely in this country today, bibles are readily available to everyone who has a desire to have one. Oh, but I don't understand what I read? Are you Stupid? 1 a : slow of mind : OBTUSE b : given to unintelligent decisions or acts : acting in an unintelligent or careless manner c : lacking intelligence or reason : Or are you simply Lazy? not easily aroused to activity. LAZY suggests a disinclination to work or to take trouble *convenience foods for lazy cooks*. INDOLENT suggests a love of ease and a settled dislike of movement or activity *the heat made us all indolent*. SLOTHFUL implies a temperamental inability to act promptly or speedily when action or speed is called for *fired for being slothful about filling orders*. If one reads the word they will learn that they will eventually learn it. So why can we not learn from the experiances of others? Just wondering... George |

2 | Are we Stupid or Lazy? Our Soul at stak | Rom 14:12 | Hank | 89419
George, no doubt there is an element of laziness involved in getting others to do one's thinking for him, including one's thinking about the word of God. One of my instructors in school had a plaque on his classroom wall. It was entitled PEOPLE. Beneath the word PEOPLE, the plaque read, 5 per cent think, 10 per cent think they think, 85 per cent would rather die than think. But while laziness is a negative reason why people rely on someone to interpret Scripture, there is an equally postive reason why one should avail himself of the fruits of sound scholarship as an aid in his pursuit of a clearer understanding of Scripture. Many wise and dedicated Christian believers have gone before us who have devoted their lives to the study of Scripture, biblical languages and biblical historical and geographical settings. We can always retain the option to agree or disagree but at the same time we do ourselves an injustice by a rigid refusal to consider anyone's point of view but our own. --Hank
3 | Are we Stupid or Lazy? Our Soul at stak | Rom 14:12 | GeorJoy | 89429
Thanks for your input Hank. So true. So true. ------ Where the Word is concerned, NOT "Doing oneselves an injustice" is just my point. ------ But if one refuses the initiative; other than hearing the originator, he is as likely as not to get a watered down or poluted version. J. Vernon McGee once said that "it is all right for one to graze in others pastures, but one should always give his own milk." I hope we're on the same track. George |

4 | Are we Stupid or Lazy? Our Soul at stak | Rom 14:12 | Hank | 89449
George, I think we're basically on the same track, or at least we seem to be heading in the same general direction :-) --Hank
5 | Are we Stupid or Lazy? Our Soul at stak | Rom 14:12 | GeorJoy | 89510
Thanks Hank Without a doubt, we are headed in the same direction. Some get to their destination by walking, others run, still others may go by bicycle, car, plane or train. (I want a big BUS, so I can take as many with me as I can. I want them on the fenders, the roof and hood.) Though our means may differ, our goal is the same. When Christian paths collide, maturity in Christ will clear the traffic jam. Having originated this post, I have truly learned a lesson. Although I would never intentionally point a finger at anyone (Mat 7:1 Judge not, that ye be not judged. :2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged ,) I often have a hard time conveying the knowledge and messages I have gleaned without stepping on toes and appearing overly authoritative. However, I contend that my authority is the WORD OF GOD. I am not the originator. I am simply a messenger. I will not take from or add to what the originator has sent. And… On top of this thorn, I tend to talk in parables. I once considered these two traits as faults, or thorns. I am no longer sure that they are either. As I quoted somewhere in this thread, I once read, “a parable shows the (spiritual) responsiveness of the hearer.) This saying has helped me greatly. God Bless you and yours George |
