1 | Christian Opposition Polictian SINNED! | Rom 13:1 | compudex | 101135
Dear Pratical Bible Student: Could you clarify your question? Is it that you know someone that is in "the opposition party"? Does this mean that you are in the other opposition party? Then the term 'christian politican' is almost a contradiction in itself. But, assuming one christian was of one party and another christian was of the other party, the Scriptures come to mind that one of them is not like minded. "Of one mind": the right way! 2Corinthians 13:11 Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you. Philippians 1:27 Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel; Philippians 2:2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. 1Peter 3:8 Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous: "Definition": Politician pol·i·ti·cian (p¼l”¹-t¹sh“…n) n. 1.a. One who is actively involved in politics, especially party politics. b. One who holds or seeks a political office. 2. One who seeks personal or partisan gain, often by scheming and maneuvering: “Mothers may still want their favorite sons to grow up to be President, but . . . they do not want them to become politicians in the process” (John F. Kennedy). 3. One who is skilled or experienced in the science or administration of government. Unfortunately the very word 'politician' has a bad connotation. Normally we think of a politician in the light of definition number 2 above. "Of one mind": the wrong way! Revelation 17:13 These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast. So, I guess you would have to judge the intent of their heart. I am glad I do not have to be the judge! Peace! |

compudex - Yes, 'tis true, to call someone a politician is not always to laud him! Reminds me of a story the origin of which is probably quite anonymous, but it has been attributed to several well-known politicians including one of our ex-presidents. The story goes that a man and his wife were out for a leisurely Sunday afternoon stroll. As they passed by a certain cemetery, they saw an inscription upon a grave marker that read, "Here lies an honest man and a politician." Remarked the man to his wife, "Look, dear, there are two people buried in that grave." ...... Well, as "they" say, politics is a dirty business. But somebody has to do it :-) ...... It's always been important, I think, to know the platform upon which a political party stands before identifying oneself with it; and these days it is of particular importance for a Christian to examine very closely not only the political parties but the candidates as well before pledging his allegiance to a political party or casting his vote for a candidate for public office. ..... This is my first time to respond to any of your posts. I've been reading them with a great deal of interest however. --Hank

Hi Hank, I'm glad to see you have a good sense of humor. I loved the joke. Their platform is sometimes hard to see, as is that second body in the grave. It must take a certain breed to be a politician. I am glad I am not in that arena. What do you think of this forum? I have read some interesting answers. It is good to get different views. Surprisingly, most just seem to be at different levels of knowledge. I know I have learned some things. Some of these people have great skill with words and can explain their meaning very well. Ah, maybe they should run for office :-) Love to have you on board Hank. Peace to you! |

compudex - "Love to have you on board, Hank." -- Thanks. I've been on board since the Forum emerged as a tentative bud of the Spring of 2001, blossomed quickly and now -- now I find myself reluctant to opine whether it is growing into a healthy maturity or showing signs of wilting on the vine! ..... And what do I think of the Forum? Oh, you musn't ask on pain that it tempts me to launch into one of my infamous tirades about what's wrong with the Forum. I've expounded on that treatise far too often for my soul's health, I'm afraid, so much so, in fact, that I suspect no one pays much attention to it any more and even I bore myself in writing about it to the degree that I frequently fall asleep long ere I come to 'finis.' This Forum is a curious admixture of the good, the bad, and the ugly. There are good and responsible users, quite literate and gifted, who produce a consistent stream of posts worth reading. There are others who are not so gifted; some of them produce reasonably creditable stuff from time to time and seem to be doing the best they can, while others of them give one the distinct impression that they are dedicated to the proposition that seasoned thought, careful writing, and Forum posts have absolutely nothing in common. The latter category, the ugly, worms its way into posts now and then, and it must be reckoned with by various means that other users have at their disposal, such as on-line chastisements and, if need be, reporting abuse to the Lockman Foundation, which has been very cooperative in ridding the Forum of serious abusers. Well, my words of wisdom have been uttered, and aren't you sorry you asked? :-) Very cordially, --Hank
