1 | Holy Spirit / Tongues for Today? | Acts 2:39 | eowyn7378 | 151295
You know, I believe that this debate will be forever on-going and here is why: We can out put scripture out there, but honestly it is going to be the way that person perceives what they want to. Interpertation of the word lies within what we understand it to say and different people think differently so they will perceive differently. I didn't include all of Mark 16 up unto the verse about "deadly things" and we shall not be harmed for the sake of saving my fingers. And somone had mentioned that I didn't. I included a lot of scripture, but what was noticed was what I didn't put down. :-D

Hi eowyn, Your thoughts are correct:-) That's why I mentioned that this is a very debated topic- because it is! Scripture has but one interpretation, and yet, many applications. Interpretation is not "open to what one perceives" - though that will influence one's views- but instead should be done by considering the whole counsel of scripture- including the context. The reason I brought up the rest of Mark 16 was clearly stated: context! We cannot ignore context to support our arguments- mine or yours:-) The context of Mark 16 in relation to tongues and healings also includes vs. 18. My point being exactly that, you can't ignore it when mentioning the preceding verses. Eowyn, stick around a bit as I do enjoy the dialog with you. As you're new to this public Forum, just realize that your and my statements (postings) are open to the scrutiny of all. A challenge to what you say is not necessarily a criticism. There are many different backgrounds represented, yet we are one in Christ. Feel free to check out my user profile to get to know me a little better, and if you feel so inclined, include one about yourself. It helps us get to know one another:-) Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |
