1 | this mean baptism saves you? | Acts 2:38 | Paul Birston | 201949
Hi belovedofgod: God saves us by several things working together including the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus (1 Corinthians 15:1-11), the blood of Jesus, grace, faith and baptism (lit. immersion). It is into the likeness of Jesus' death and resurrection that we are baptized and raised (Romans 6:1-11). Another helpful passage explaining the relationship between Jesus' death for our sins and baptism is 1 Peter 3:18-22, "For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit; in which also He went and made proclamation to the spirits now in prison, who once were disobedient, when the patience of God kept waiting in the days of Noah, during the construction of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through the water. Corresponding to that, baptism now saves you--not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience--through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who is at the right hand of God, having gone into heaven, after angels and authorities and powers had been subjected to him." May God bless you and guide you in your walk with Him and growth in the grace and knowledge of Jesus, Paul |

Hello Paul, You state that, "God saves us by several things working together including the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus (1 Corinthians 15:1-11), the blood of Jesus, grace, faith and baptism (lit. immersion)." Are you making the claim that it is not "BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH" that we are saved? Are you absolutely certain that Rom. 6:1-11 is speaking of water baptism? If so, how? I would think that such a verse as 1 Pet. 3:18-22 can create more difficulties than it explains- unless it is understood in context and within the whole scope of scripture itself? Read in isolation, one can i(ncorrectly) arrive at the conclusion that the act of baptism itself is salvific! Additionally, as it is one of the more difficult passages in the NT, I would be careful in offering it as the explanation of salvation. Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

Hi Brad, Hank and Beloved of God: Please forgive me for not being able to follow up appropriately on your questions and comments. Ministry and family responsibilities right now are very intense. My mother had a stroke and has lived in five places in three months. By God's grace I hope to be able to respond before too long. Thank you, Paul |

Dear Paul :: Your ministry and family responsibilities rightly fall higher in the pecking order than your response to us on this thread, so please don't feel obligated to do so. Your brief note is sufficient. God's grace to you, sir, and I'm sure others will join me in prayer for your mother's recovery from her stroke. In Him, Hank.
