Thanks Hank. My understanding of repentance is, to go the other way in thought deed and word to what the person lived pre being born again. To determine to become more Christ like in everyday life and living in general. The couple requesting baptism are living together as if married. I understand that we are to "work out our own salvation" and that the christian journey is a work in progress (thank goodness for grace). The thing is, If this fact hadn't come to light none would be the wiser and they would be baptized in ignorance, but now the fact is known what is the responsibility of the church? | ||||||

Hi, CeeBee... Baptism is an ordinance instituted by Christ which signifies to fellow believers and the world that they have died with Christ and are raised into newness of life (Romans 6:3-4). When we are dead to sin, we must are freed to live for Christ (Romans 6:11-12). Per the command of our Lord, we are to make disciples, teaching men to obey Christ rather than the world (Matthew 28:18-20; 1 Peter 2:10-19). 1. Would you your Baptism of this couple teach them about proper obedience to Christ? 2. What would your Baptism of this couple teach the rest of your congregation regarding holy and righteous living? 3. What would your Baptism of this couple teach a lost world? A world that would see no difference between your values and its own? Syncretism creeps into the church very slowly, with tiny little compromises. Please... don't let it be "reported commonly that there is fornication among you!" Rather, "purge out therefore the old leaven." (cf 1 Corinthians 5:1-7.) In Him, Doc |

Thanks Doc. I have had another response to the issue to which I answered today. However you have only made my resolve so much more substantial in the fact that I will step out of the situation should they (the headship) insist I still baptize them, as I cannot in good conscience go ahead with it. God bless. CB. |
