1 | Spirit received is miraculous never non | Acts 2:38 | koscheiman | 173836
1 Corinthians 13 will shed light on this for you. First of all in verse 9 it says "in part" which is said in view of the temporary use and purpose of the spiritual gifts. While the church had such helps, the knowledge of spiritual things was but partial. verse 10- "That which is perfect (complete)" has reference to the completed NT also called "the perfect law of liberty" in James 1:25. When that was given to the church, the temporary and partial information derived thru the spiritual gifts was to be no longer necessary thus "that which is in part shall be done away." E. M. Zerr |

Greetings my friend! The problem with appealing to 1 Cor. 13 to defend your position is that the text only says that the gifts mentioned will end at some point, but that point is not defined in Scripture. You assume that 'that which is perfect' is a reference to the completion of Scripture, but the text never actually says such a thing. This is why I said that it is unwise to assume that the gifts are no longer valid as that position is entirely based upon assumptions. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Paul said miracles would cease: Love never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall be done away; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall be done away. (1 Corinthians 13:8) When the gospel was fully revealed: And he gave some to be apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, unto the work of ministering, unto the building up of the body of Christ: till we all attain unto the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a fullgrown man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: (Ephesians 4:11-13) |

Greetings Friend! You wrote: "Paul said miracles would cease:" and "When the gospel was fully revealed:" Yet, that is not what the Scriptures you cited actually says. This is an assumption my friend, not a Scriptural fact. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Greetings Friend! Before we go to some outside source, shouldn't we consider Scripture first? You made the claim that Scripture teaches that miracles and gifts will cease when the Canon of Scripture was completed (a loose paraphrase of several of your posts). Would you care to show me in Scripture where the Bible says this? Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

the correctness of this is I Cor. 13 chapter where Paul say they will cease if there is no "love" being shown to one another. God's word and love will never fail or pass away.
8 | Spirit received is miraculous never non | Acts 2:38 | Morant61 | 174061
Greetings Wisdom! We need to go by what the Scripture text actually says. It does not say that the gifts will cease when the canon is completed. Nor, does it say that that will cease is 'there is no 'love' being shown to one another'. It simply says that they will cease, without defining exactly when that time is. That may be, but "love" is the key God will use no matter whether you belive in Him or not. The Word of God will never cease, but love will go beyond the grave or any life on Earth. God's love is "unconditional" and His Word will never pass away. Take a closer look at what Paul is speaking in reference. |
