1 | You need baptism of the Holy Ghost! | Acts 19:2 | tj57h@cs.com | 88708
These believers were born again, did not have the Baptism and then they received the baptism of the Holy Ghost! Every person born again is baptized into the Spirit. In this scripture these two events happened at different times, as was my experience! Love, Tim Hines |

Hi, Tim (tj57h). How do you define the baptism of the Holy Spirit (or Holy Ghost, if you prefer)? --Hank
3 | You need baptism of the Holy Ghost! | Acts 19:2 | tj57h@cs.com | 88729
When I heard about it, about 12 years ago, i knew nothing about it. I started studying it in the bible and concluded it is something I should look into further, at the time we were attending a Baptist Church and in a bible study I bought up the subject. The leader said that his sister go the supposed baptism of the holy ghost and he said if you go looking for a spirit you will find one, implying evil spirit. In my studies I found that Jesus said: Luke 11:9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. 10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. 11 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? 12 Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? 13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? I was quickened by the Spirit to stand on this verse, even though great FEAR was put into my mind about getting possessed by an evil Spirit, The Father will give the Holy Ghost to anyone who asks or seeks, he will not give any thing else, I believed it and that settled it. I went to a full gospel Church and went up when they asked if anyone wanted to receive the Baptism of the Holy Ghost. I was filled completely with the fullness of the Spirit, it is hard to explain but I felt it emotionally and physically and had the overwhelming sense of the presence of the power of God in my body. Tears of joy filled my eyes, I had not a care in the world. At this point in time they taught that you would speak in other tongs, I did not. 3 weeks later I started speaking in tongs and overwhelming urge to speak welled up in my heart and I just spoke what came forth. I still speak in tongs; have operated in the gifts discernment and prophecy mainly. My definition of Baptized in the Holy Ghost: Complete surrender and fullness of the spirit. I don't want to make too big a deal of the felling of being baptized in the Holy Ghost but it is difficult to ignore. I would equate it to totally cleaning out the spiritual plumbing in you heart and soul, fullness of the Spirit completely full and overflowing! My witness and boldness to speak gods words and my ability to hear from God by the Spirit have greatly been enhanced by this experience just as it did for the early Church: Acts 1:15 And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty,) Prior to this Peter was totally humiliated and the Spirit enabled him to speak boldly to the masses. God as my witness I tell you the truth, as I know it. If you are a son seek you will find, the father will not give you any thing but his Holy Spirit! Love, Tim Hines |

4 | You need baptism of the Holy Ghost! | Acts 19:2 | Mathew | 88744
Tim H, I was raised in a non-denominational church. My experience with tongues is a rather interesting one. My parents are both "spirit filled". I have listened to people speak in tongues for as long as I can remember. I wanted to speak in tongues just as my parents have there whole life. They use this gift to pray and intercede, to uplift themselves and to pray in tongues when they feel the Spirits unction leading them to pray when they dont know what to pray. So at the age of 8 I was baptized. And at the age of 10 I received the gift of tongues. I am now 27 years old, and my personal experiences and feelings that I felt are no proof that what I was speaking was the gift of tongues and the evidence of the Holy Ghost. I no longer speak this vain babbling. Because scripture is a more sure word than my parents, my feelings, and my personal experiences. No place in the Bible do I find the unknown tongue being used to profit Gods people. The "unknown" tounge is mearly an "unlearned" tongue to the people within ear shot. MaTT |

Most certainly you have the right to your own opinion and experience. I have stated mine and stand on it. The letter killeth and the Spirit giveth life. I pray for you to come to a greater knowledge of our savior Jesus Christ and I ask that you pray for me also! Love, Tim |

6 | You need baptism of the Holy Ghost! | Acts 19:2 | Mathew | 88758
Tim, The reason for my post was to suggest that our opinions and experiences are not a sure foundation to stand upon. But if we could show a little scripture with our thoughts on this subject, then both people could understand why the other stands firmly on his/her beleif. I beleive that you have the mind of Christ Tim. And I know that the Spirit leads every person to the truth. Its just that most people I hear taking the view of speaking in unknown tongues in relation with being Spirit filled, usually end up ending the conversation with there personal experiences and not the word of God. I understand and agree! My testimony contained a very powerful revelation of scripture: Luke 11:9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. Clearly, it is a father and son relationship (Born again) and Jesus is telling us to ask for the Holy Ghost. I try not to make too much of the feelings, one CAN be deceived by them and I believe their are many that believe in the Baptism in the Holy Ghost that have gone to excesses in some areas, but it does not negate the truth. Thank you for you kind and loving words, it was refreshing, unlike many of the responses I have gotten recently. I admire a man who makes his own decisions for himself and does not just go along with their parent’s religion, I am the same way. We have to stand before God it the light we walk in not our parents. Above all we express LOVE, I know YOU know that, currently that is my heart's prayer, to express more of his love and compassion! Let us pray for one another! Love, Tim |

Tim, Good point about the Father, Son relationship. And I agree that we are to ask for the Holy Ghost. I see that by using this scripture for protection against receiving a unfamiliar spirit would not be taking it out of context. However I would like to know if you see it that speaking an unkown tounge is the evidence of this Holy Ghost. This I would like to discuss if that is your view on scripture. We all must ask for Christ to come into our hearts. I agree with this, because the Holy Ghost will not force himself on anyone. Your brother in Christ, MaTT |

9 | You need baptism of the Holy Ghost! | Acts 19:2 | tj57h@cs.com | 88778
I speak in toungs, have for over 10 years, makes no sense to my rational mind! I have asked God to take it away if it is not of him, and he has not. As the scripture states not all speak in toungs, so one could have the Baptism and not speak in toungs. Like I said I did not speak in toungs immediately. I believe you would manifest one or more of the other gifts though, prophesy, discernment of Spirits, or healings. Have you operated in any of the Gifts? In Acts toungs was generally spoken when they received the Holy Ghost. Would you see any harm in asking God to baptize you in the Holy Ghost or to operate in his Gifts? Just ask and see what happens. Love, Tim Will talk more when I have more time! |

10 | You need baptism of the Holy Ghost! | Acts 19:2 | Mathew | 88824
Hello again Tim, Nice to hear from you. I operate daily in the gift of the Holy Ghost. Any good work that I do unto the Lord is not of myself. For there is no good in me except that which is God in me. Any good work done to others or in ministry is also the evidence of the Baptism of the Holy Ghost. Rom 12:6 Then having gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, if prophecy, according to the proportion of faith; Rom 12:7 or ministry, in the ministry; or he who teaches, in the teaching; Rom 12:8 or he who exhorts, in the encouragement; or he who shares, in simplicity; or he who takes the lead, in diligence; or he who shows mercy, in cheerfulness. Rom 12:9 Let love be without hypocrisy, shrinking from evil, cleaving to good; Tongues were not always accompanied by recieving the Holy Ghost. For instance, compare Acts 2:2 with Act 4:29-31 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings, and grant to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your Word, Act 4:30 by stretching forth of Your hand for healing, and miracles, and wonders may be done by the name of Your holy child Jesus. Act 4:31 And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the Word of God with boldness. There prayer was asking God for them to give them the Holy Ghost so that they could speak his word with boldness, to heal and do miracles in His name. "In His Name" is the key phrase here I would like to point out. Fire represents power, and the tongues represnted the instrument that God would empower on the day of Pentecost. Kind of like when my Dad would tell me to tell my little brother to do something. My words held alot more weight when I went in my Fathers name. Or like when God set a coal upon Isaiahs lips. And how he empowered Moses to go before Pharoh. The tongues that did go forth were earthly languages. And every one understood. So when I read in 1Co 14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. I see it that this must not be talking about Pentecost because men were adressed at Pentecost, and they did understand. So I take it as unknown toungues means unknown, or unlearned to the corporate esembly being adressed. I'm comparing 1Cor.14 to the 3 instances that tongues were spoken in Acts because it says in Act 11:15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them, as on us at the beginning. We must assume that the Holy Ghost kept falling the same way as it did when they spoke out earthly languages at the beginning and every man understood. But in 1Cor.14 I believe that Paul is speaking from the point of view of a person which no one around or near by can understand. It isnt the speaker who Paul was concerned about in Corinth, but I beleive that it was the unlearned people he was concerned about. Those who had no knowledge of what was being spoken, because they new not the language. MaTT |

It is such a blessing to talk to a loving encouraging brother! Praise God, I would personally not worry about speaking in toungs! All don't! Walk in the light he has given you and be blessed because you are blessed! Your fruits are evident, I am happy to have met you! I will pray for your walk and I hope you pray for mine! Love, Tim |
