Hi, Tduplechain... Thank you for your kind words. However, there are many on this forum that are far more Godly men than I am. I learn from them all the time. I'm really much more of a late-comer to the forum, too. Anyway, I'll try to give you as straight an answer to you as possible: Son, the word Christian was first applied to the disciples (see Acts 11:26). People abuse the term, and have for a long time, but then that is in the nature of people. Don't feel uncomfortable with its use, even if you have to remind people that being a Christian actually *is* being a disciple of Christ. Of course, the trouble is, even the term "disciple of Christ" has been picked up by another group. Nomenclature is always a problem! Regarding the "red letters," I think I understand what you are trying to say. Yes, the explicit words of Jesus have a special value to us. I think it is so cool when you can say "Talitha cumi" and utter the very same (or close) sounds that were uttered by our Lord! Since the Gospels are specifically about the life of Christ, they also have a special place in our hearts. Now, that written, you need to remember that the teachings of the apostles were just as authoritative. Christ even said that what they would say would be inspired by Holy Spirit as He prompted them to remember what Christ said (John 14:26 and 16:13). Even the apostles themselves would say that their own words were the commands of God (2 Peter 3:2). I am persuaded that every word of the 66 books of the canon of scripture is very literally the Word of God. You know, we do tend to love different parts of the Word differently. Its a good reminder, though, that every word of God is precious (Prov 30:5). Also, as Christ said, we live by *every* word of God (Matthew 4:4). I am sorry if this isn't exactly what you wanted to hear. However, the wounds of a friend (the Word) are better than the kisses of an enemy (the philosophies of men). In Him, Doc PS Hang in there and keep studying the Word. I like what Jonathan Edwards resolved: "To study the Scriptures so steadily, constantly and frequently, as that I may find, and plainly perceive myself to grow in the knowledge of the same." |

Hello Doc, thank you for a honest answer.Doc, it was a time when I call myself a christain until a guy pull me aside and pointed me to jesus, He would always tell me that jesus never spoke the word christain and I would debate and urgue with him and sometime even hurt his feelings. When I got tire of insulting him I prayed and begged the lord to please show me the truth. After begging and pleading I open my bible and started to study.I started in the gospels, because people would always tell me to start their because it was jesus testimony. While reading the gospels I started to see and feel things that were totally different from what I was taught, this brought about a lot of cunfusion for me.The bigest battle was with disciple and christain because I said to myself if I say I am a disciple people would think I was crazy, so I went on being confused for quite awhile until my ten year old daughter told one day while we were driving that the lord told her on the day of Judgement that he was going to tell people they were soppose to be disciple not christain, that really opened up my eyes. Now just to say you are a diciple is one thing, to become and act like a disciple is another.Doc, God knows that I don't try to cause confusion on this forum, I just love the lord so much and his people I try to share with people the things that the lord has shown me.I constantly pray to god before I write anything on this forum that what I write be his will not my own. With grace and love to everyone. God Bless you, Tduplechain |

Brother we all need to learn to view each other through the eyes of God,meaning we should look upon one another as God does and act accordingly. At the end of each and every day when it's time to put it down we need to look at Gods Word and ask ourselves, did my life and believing line up with His Word and if not change accordingly. We cant bend Gods Word to fit our lives,we must bend our lives to fit his Word. Stay close to God brother. In Christ, lionheart |
