The first part of this verse is the "IF" portion of the verse. Romans 10:17 says that "faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ." The verse says that if we hear his words, and believe (i.e. repent), then the second part of the verse takes place. That is we receive eternal life. The Bible also says in Romans 8:1 "Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." Once we are saved, we can not undergo the judgement that an unsaved person will experience when Christ returns. This is not to say that Christians will not be corrected when we sin. But, Christians are spared the final judgement. The final portion speaks of the fact that all of us are born dead in our sins. When we are saved, we are brought to life in Christ. It is interesting to note that the "THEN" portion of this verse comes as a result of our hearing AND believing. It is not something that we work toward. Hope this helps. Jay |

3 | What did Jesus mean in John 5:24? | John 5:24 | Robert Nicholson | 63603 | ||
Thank you brother Jay: I believe that we should remember that time, not necessarily the date, but a time when we were made new creatures in Christ. It stands to reason that if we are lost that there was a time when Jesus found us. I agree that the word "heareth" means to hear with understanding and the word "believe" is to totally rely upon or rest upon the finished work of Christ. What I like about this verse is the positive statement "shall not come into judgment, but is passed from death unto life" Praise his name Robert |
