1 | Why do i need to love god? | John 3:16 | Inquisitor | 223440
Dear Beja, BradK and DocT: With each successive post, I seem to confuse y'all more and more, when it seems so simple at least in my mind. I have to agree with all of your posts excpet for the idea (a question) that we can earn our salvation. Once again I agree with you here; there's absolutely NO WAY any human being can possibly earn their way to Heaven. BUT I still insist Love is the best motivation to seek Him out, find out about His Commands and obey them so we can please Him. Further I'll agree this kind of Love may not be the first type of response to our God, especially when we see the kind of punishments meted out to different individuals we see in His Word, i.e. the Cannanites, Achan and his family, Annanias and Saphira in Acts 5, etc. Thus the fear to which I alluded earlier. All I'm saying is a confirmation of what we see in God's Word: IF we truly love God, we'll obey Him. That means we'll study His Word and find out what all that level of obedience means. Hopefully a person after reaching the age of accountability like Shannon apparently has will be perseverant enough to pursue her study and follow God's Plan of Salvation and become a christian. Hopefully, like it's been suggested, she will ask the right questions of her parents, teachers at Sunday school and elsewhere and come up with the right answers. Upon obeying God's Commands in this area, she will become a christian and begin her journey with her hand in God's Hand and go to Heaven. How could this be simpler? This is merely just anohter chapter in the history of mankind with yet another child of God finding their way to Heaven like God is hoping for ALL of mankind. God has extended His Grace and Mercy to mankind ALL of this time since He kicked us out of the Garden. His Plan of having His Son sacrified for men and women everywhere came off just like He intended. And now we enjoy the benefits. But like we're ALL saying, in order for any one of us to receive this Gift of Salvation, we must follow and obey God's Commands from the day we become a christian to the end of our lives, Rev 2:10. Hopefully, this post has cleared up any remaining questions. I remain your servant and God bless. Inquisitor |

2 | Why do i need to love god? | John 3:16 | Beja | 223448
Inquisitor, You failed to answer my question. How do we receive forgiveness and imputation of God's righteousness? This is the entire question, a lot of what you say is correct, IF it is understood with the right answer to the above question. If you are saying that we receive these things by loving God, this is a false gospel. These things were purchased for us by Christ's life, death, ressurection, but we receive these things through faith alone. Can you or can you not affirm this? If you wish to to not confuse us, simply answer that question clearly. In Christ, Beja |

3 | Why do i need to love god? | John 3:16 | Inquisitor | 223454
Quoted from Beja: Q. How do we receive forgiveness and imputation of God's righteousness? A. Acts 2:36 “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.” 37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?” 38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.” Q. A. Yes indeed the gift from the Holy Spirit includes all these things like salvation for our soul (forgiveness for our sins), close personal relationship with Christ our Saviour, close personal relationship with the church for our support and edification, especially when we worship together. There are so many things included in this gift but there are also a few things we must do to ACCEPT this gift just as we do when fulfilling the requirements of a Last Will and Testament of someone who passes on and leaves his goods, Christ did this for all of us. This is made so very clear in Heb 9:15 And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance. 16 For where there is a testament, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. 17 For a testament is in force after men are dead, since it has no power at all while the testator lives. 18 Therefore not even the first covenant was dedicated without blood. 19 For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and goats, with water, scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people, 20 saying, “This is the blood of the covenant which God has commanded you.” 21 Then likewise he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry. 22 And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission. I'm NOT saying that we receive these things by loving God, that's one of our motivations. I'm saying that we received what God has promised us as a result of our obeying and following His Commandments. This further demonstrated by all the past examples throughout the Bible. All of God's faithful and obedient followers like Abraham, and all the others described in Heb 11 received God's Blessings because they obeyed God. They too may have been motivated by their love of God but the main reason they pleased God is a result of their obedience. I'm not certain of this concept of "imputed righteousness" but I'll take a stab at it. Hopefully you're referring to the fact that God looks at all human beings with the sin in our lives BUT after becoming a christian, then we have the Blood of Jesus covering our sins. Again I must refer to the passage in Hebrews as Christ is described there as the Perfect High Priest, our Mediator. He's our "go-between" spanning the gulf between us and God. He's the One who first blazed the trail between the human condition to God and we can follow His Footsteps by accepting His Leadership into our lives. This is made clear in 1 John 1:5 This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. I do sincerely hope this is clear -- Inquisitor |

4 | Why do i need to love god? | John 3:16 | Beja | 223455
Inquisitor, Gal 2:15,16 "We are Jews by nature and not sinners from among the Gentiles; nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified." Rom 3:28 For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law. Rom 4:3 For what does the Scripture say? "ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS CREDITED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS." Rom 4:4 Now to the one who works, his wage is not credited as a favor, but as what is due. Rom 4:5 But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness, Rom 3:23-26 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed; for the demonstration, I say, of His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. Rom 5:1,2 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God. Now here are some that continue the same but also include the teaching of imputation, which is Christ giving us a righteousness that is not our own, nor from any work we do, but counting the perfect righteousness of Jesus Christ as ours through faith in Him. That is imputation. Rom 3:21,22 But now apart from the Law the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction Php 3:8,9 More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ, and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith, 2Co 5:21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. 1Co 1:30 But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption, Our deeds are nothing and can gain us nothing! We do not even know how to begin doing good until after we are saved! Jer 13:23 "Can the Ethiopian change his skin Or the leopard his spots? Then you also can do good Who are accustomed to doing evil. On the contrary, God saves us and changes us SO THAT we can now do good works. Eph 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; Eph 2:9,10 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. Inquisitor, salvation and all these things come to us when we not only repent of our sins, but we also repent of any notion that we can ever do good, or fulfill a law, or satisfy his commands. We give up the notion that we in ourselves can present anything, and in utter bankruptcy we plead nothing but the blood and righteousness of Jesus Christ before God. That is placing our trust, our faith, in Jesus Christ. Please, turn from this false gospel you are preaching. We do not receive salvation through obeying his commandments, but only through faith and faith alone! In Christ, Beja |
